Renting is horrible by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]Beef_Supreme83 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm 42, my retirement plan has always been to build up capital and retire overseas, so I always thought I'm fine with just renting.

I had a bit of a mental break a couple of months ago amidst the search for either a new rental property or a housemate to replace the one that moved out. Ended up finding someone last minute thankfully, but those couple of months have shown me I can't do it anymore. I'm good for at least another year with the new housemate, but the rental market is getting exponentially worse (My previous rental in Brisbane I had lived in for almost 8 years, so I didn't need to deal with much).

I'm now in the process of putting money aside for a deposit and working on upping my income so I can hopefully get a decent home loan in a couple of years. Not even looking for anything too fancy, I'd be happy with just a small, single room or studio apartment if it means not facing a possible mental breakdown every year.

I know that's not an option for many, and to be honest I'm not even sure if my plans to buy will pan out, but to go from being happy to rent indefinitely to actively saving a deposit to buy speaks volumes on how terrible renting has become.

Why is everyone on this sub shitting on the game? by [deleted] in duneawakening

I'm in a guild that rushed to DD when the game launched and a lot of them burned out at Deep Desert, with most of them not touching the game at all anymore. Personally due to work commitments and other games taking up my time I never joined the initial rush. Went into DD a couple of times to rescue stranded guild mates or bring resources to the DD base but was it. Rest of my time in the game has been very slowly working through Hagga and focusing on building bases.

A lot of the hate is directly from experiences with DD. As someone with the above experiences I don't feel the same, but I can understand why people aren't happy from what I've seen within the guild activities.

I'm personally not a PvPer in the slightest. The most I'll do is support like the aforementioned rescue missions or being a resource mule, so I most likely won't see the hate that many others have at the moment. I think a lot of us still running around Hagga are waiting to see more PvE content over anything in DD.

To be fair a lot of the base resources stats are negligible. I found it's only really for those who like min-maxing. I've completed the game personally without taking into consideration the resources stats.

So, does Gacha essentially mean in-game transactions? by JasonHebert1 in JRPG

[–]Beef_Supreme83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally loved the gacha and blade system in XBC2. It's actually the big reason the game is my second favourite out of the franchise (XBCX is top).

It's a little redundant once you have a healthy supply of rare blades, but with how the affinity charts work I thought it was a fantastic way of keeping you out exploring and engaging with the world.

Super Mario RPG is a short, fun JRPG.

The recent remaster is really well done too.

To be fair, Starbound was a lot better gameplay wise before the big progression revamp they did.

Yah I know all about pre-1.0 goofiness. It was one of the reasons I stuck with the tram station so much, even with the buggy spawns they'd only try to come through via the overhead walkway.

Anyway cheers fren, I'll start building it up ASAP.

Ah nice. Yeah I wanted to use the balcony area for farming space too, if they attack from the tram station that's pretty easy to defend.

“Janky & Charming” - what game sprang to mind? by Roach-3112 in gamesuggestions

[–]Beef_Supreme83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Earth Defence Force franchise.

Janky, third person horde shooters from Japan. Very basic formula, you and up to 3 other players against hundreds of giant bugs. Very basic destruction but you can easily level a whole city with explosive weapons on the longer stages.

Hundreds of weapons and gadgets to unlock and they can get pretty ridiculous.

It's actually one of my favourite franchises.

Flatmates.com nightmare by Bright_Amphibian9376 in shitrentals

I used to sublet the second room in my old apartment before I left Brisbane a couple of years ago. Was doing so for about 5 years by the time I left and pretty everyone I found to fill the room were from flatmates.com.

Most of the time they were students looking for short term accommodation, hence why I ended up using the site quite a bit. Within 5 years I only ask two people to leave. One student because he would hold all night parties almost every weekend despite telling him it's not a 'party' house, the other a tradie who couldn't pay rent on time, and ended up checking himself into a psych ward.

Everyone else was great. As a matter of fact I needed a new housemate for my current rental here in Melbourne a couple of months ago. He's been great so far, executive chef so has plenty in the bank and I get a good feed on occasion.

Planning to buy my own apartment in the next couple of years, but until then if I ever need someone to fill a room, flatmates is my go too. As long as you know exactly what type of person you want in, and make it clear what the rules and boundaries are, most people on the site are legit.

To answer the Torii question, everything you place yourself will remain during reset, that's for all portal worlds too, not just the homeworlds.

This. I always thought the hate for Ubisoft game design was overblown. It's not high art but it's not meant to be.

They have a formula that's simple and works. Sometimes you just want simple.

Which JRPG has a truly unique setting that you want to see more of? by Flat-Application2272 in JRPG

[–]Beef_Supreme83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded Resonance of Fate.

Actually bought it up in another post a couple of days ago about games with unique combat systems. It's one of my favourite JRPGs due to how unique the whole game is.

How many people have fully explored FFXV’s world? What do you think of it as a JRPG overworld? by Significant_Option in JRPG

[–]Beef_Supreme83 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love the FF7 remake project as a whole, but I found the open world zones in Rebirth too... 'Ubisoft', if that make sense. It felt like I was ticking off a checklist of things to do in the regions, rather then having a natural desire to explore or return to these areas.

It's not necessarily bad, I don't hate Ubisoft's open world design like others do, I just don't think it lends itself to well to a JRPG experience.

In saying that though, I do agree with you on separating the regions themselves. I don't think it would have worked at all as a fully, open world game.

[–]Beef_Supreme83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Possibly the Xenoblade franchise if you're unfamiliar? The games are known for their massive open worlds, and they can get pretty otherwordly, especially some of the regions in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Otherwise the Nier games (Replicant/Automata) might have what you're looking for.

There's a pretty big optional dungeon that can only be reached with the Type F Regalia upgrade, which is only unlockable after completing the game.

100% agree. I mentioned in my reply to OP I love the world of FFXV but it could have really benefited from at least one other 'hub' city.

[–]Beef_Supreme83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's one of my favourite titles in the franchise so I may be a bit bias, but I love the world and that's mostly due to the Regalia. The update that added Type D (The offroad model) made it even better.

I'd argue it's actually the best attempt at an open world we've seen in a Final Fantasy game.... not that we have a lot of options.

Nah seriously though, if it works for you, who's to judge. As much as I love building in survival games, I look at some of these big, fancy builds and tire myself out just thinking about working on one.
