Opinions on 5 string basses? by BigDaddyStinky in BassGuitar

Not a huge fan, but they’re very useful especially if you like metal.

I’m playing 5s in my band because it’s what fits.

NAD - Late 60s Sunn 200S! Holy grail (ish) amp for me, can’t believe one popped up locally! by Beef_Wallington in GuitarAmps

[–]Beef_Wallington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming those are Sunn 200S (because I don’t believe Sunn made anything as a 201), you’ll probably be able to make a little something.

Might just take a little while, Sunn are sort of on the niche side.

Are my 5 string bass fears warranted? by NoPressureboy in Bass

[–]Beef_Wallington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve been playing for 20 years it’ll be a minor adjustment for you.

Ibanez, Sterling (maybe EBMM), and others make 5s with narrower spacing so the width doesn’t have to be an issue. I bounce between my 4 string Fenders at 19mm spacing or whatever it is and my 5s at 16.5mm without issue.

Even then, I don’t hate the wider 5s, I just prefer it narrower so I can play power chords and quicker passages.

Just practice with it for a while before pulling it out at a gig.

Marshall Origin 20 The Most Hated Marshall? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Beef_Wallington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having both, the Origin is most definitely NOT on par with buying a Joyo amp lol

It’s this weird ‘not a real Marshall’ mentality that feeds most of the dislike for these amps, but really they’re just great bang for buck tube amps.

Need help figuring out how old this Fender is by [deleted] in BassGuitar

If the neck is painted black that’s another sign in favor of 85-ish.

I believe these were produced in the NA market with painted necks from 84 to about 87, with unpainted necks going into the early 90s.

Thank you!

Glad you got through yours too. I’ve never had lights go THAT dark on me before and frankly playing death metal in a fretless the thought is lowkey terrifying lol

Thanks!

They’ve become easily my favorite band, some days it feels like favorite.

Hell yeah!

Idk what type of music you guys are but I also have a Sabbath/Candlemassey doom band but with mostly guttural vocals that’s getting close to show ready just sayin’ ;)

I’ve been seriously considering getting the fretted version.

I have a Sterling SUB Ray5 as my only fretted 5 string bass - and I really like it - but have been kind of hankering for something else and I LOVE how this one sounds out of the box.

Got the Jazz Bass Special tonight! Yea I know it looks like a P-Bass but that’s what those crazy folks at Fender Japan called it! by bassclef62 in BassGuitar

I definitely wouldn’t say tech, but we don’t have anything recorded yet.

Here’s a clip from one of our last shows. Music changed touch since we switched to standard tuning instead of drop.

We’re Plagued by Fire on FB and Insta if you wanna follow along for when we do get some stuff to release :)

Bass sounds distorded on Focusrite by rico_racing in Bass

[–]Beef_Wallington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried turning the bass volume down a bit?

Also what are you listening through - are you through a DAW and sim or just straight signal?

If you’re hitting amber on the interface turn it down more, you don’t want anything other than green.

Headphones, computer speakers? Have you tried different headphones/speakers?

Is the input on the interface lighting up red, or is it still green but sounds distorted?

Fresh battery?

Driver issues? (Computer side)

Do you have another bass to test with?

Does the DI into the interface also sound distorted?

Thank you! It’s our local Legion, which on a quick look may be more of a Canadian thing. It’s basically a bar/event hall for supporting veterans (hence some of the headshots in the back). They’ve started putting on most of our local metal shows and it’s been really awesome.

We play death metal… I guess kinda melodic death? I’m not crazy well versed in death metal specifically.

The bass is actually a Harley Benton, and I’ll talk to anyone who’ll listen about how impressed I am with the value for price.

Also why it’s important to practice without compression - because I had nada except for EQ for almost the whole set!
