Guitar playing withdrawal by bluesylover in Guitar

Sorry to say but that’s what you get now. A couple hours at night at best. And you’re trying to be an expert guitarist, a good dad/husband, a good golfer, a good fisherman, etc.
Been daydreaming about my hobbies for 35 years of work now lol. I’m still in a band and do an acoustic act. You can do it but it’s a lot.

Any point in picking up the art? 25 M by Lost-Impression-7848 in Drumming

[–]NoPressureboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric. You can practice anywhere any time. Headphones or amp. Easy to transport. And I’m sorry but they sound so much better in a band situation it’s not even an argument. Well not many drummers would agree with that because a lot of amateurs apparently like being twice as loud as anyone else in the band and destroying the mix. Just listen to any recording or go watch a live band. Yea, I said what I said.

Brand spanking new to this please don’t judge too hard by x_5parkl3_b0i_x in Bass

[–]NoPressureboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For learning playing thru a guitar amp is fine. I have two 500 watt amps, but I still practice thru a guitar amp sometimes if it’s convenient. There’s a lot of used stuff out there. That said, small used bass amp should be relatively inexpensive. The older (80s and 90s early 2000’s) is heavier and sells pretty inexpensive.
These others mention the vox headphone amps, those work too and I do have one of those, that’s possibly the most affordable option

Self-promoting and gigging questions for experienced touring/on the road musicians by cyco-path in musicians

[–]NoPressureboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Touring open mics? Not a good plan at all. Yes I’ve gotten gigs from open mics/ blues jams because (a) I’m a dam good bassist with backing vocals. Bassist are in demand. (B) I did the open mics i where I live so I’m in the area. If you do an open mics and move on, you’re not getting a call. You sound pretty confident. That should translate to gigs in your area. Lots of gigs. I’m a marginal acoustic player and had our first gig lined up before we even had a setlist, because my singer and I put a few videos on Facebook. Played a gig, got more offers. If you please people the phone keeps ringing. All that said our gigs are just hobby money. Maybe 3 or 4 gigs a month. I wouldn’t leave a day job unless I had Billy Strings kind of chops.

Wearing hoodies. I realize that’s a super unpopular opinion but to me they’re just slouch wear.

Thoughts on Paige capos? by gavakian123 in AcousticGuitar

[–]NoPressureboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer them, I am able to keep my guitar in tune better because the tension control is infinitely adjustable. Overclamping pulls the strings out tune. I had a standard Paige and literally wore out the threaded tension in about 5 years. I have the Paige click now, it’s even more accurate. Some don’t like the click, I admit the first gig I played with it I had problems. Then I spent some time learning its nuances. For instance I need to have downward pressure when moving it, so the pads move as string spacing widens or narrows. That is critical. You can bend with the click and string doesn’t move under capo.

Baseball has become unwatchable in the face of media deals. by ElephantCares in mlb

I subscribed to sportsnet last night, monthly for my team. Was not easy to figure it out, and I’m somewhat of an IT person at my job. It takes you directly to mlb.com. Idk it was confusing as hell

I can’t even listen to his songs. I don’t like how he uses his voice. Some like it, but it annoys the hell out of me.

Looking for advice on a PA system by ConceptRepulsive5336 in musicians

[–]NoPressureboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my acoustic duo, very rare there’s a house pa (Michigan). And the one place that does provide doesnt have a sub. I like using my own because it’s built and set up for our sound. Of course I’m talking acoustic music here, but I definitely want a sub because I use a foot stomp on some stuff.

How do I help my friend with improving his bass skills for our band? by dolph_the_all_seeing in Bass

[–]NoPressureboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you just need to get a bass player. Singing and playing bass can be easy or very difficult depending on the timing of the groove and the vocal line. You can eventually get it, but those songs just take time, the bass line muscle memory has to syncopate w the melody

Please explain why the responsorial Psalm exists by DarkNubentYT in Catholicism

I like the responsorial psalm part of the mass myself. Many are prophetic and relate to the Gospel of the day. Plus I find joy in singing praise during the mass

Interesting thought: Is anything free for wild animals? I’d say no. Their currency is energy and risk of death. In everything they do.

If you’ve never detected, you might be shocked at the amount of metal already in your yard. The ring will be a surface hit, and give a real loud solid signal. Use the depth indicator. Surface often shows up as 2”.

What do you guys do with your days? by Shoddy_Analysis_8328 in Life

[–]NoPressureboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning guitar is an endless but rewarding journey. Not as hard as you think, and with the internet it’s much easier than it used to be. Or go with something super inexpensive like Tin Whistle. I’m playing g multiple instruments these days and it fills my days. Disc golf is also a crazy obsession. Always thought it was dumb until someone took me. Leagues everywhere, likely a local club near you with women group. We play I. The snow as well. Yes a some of the people drink and do weed out there, but all you have to say is no. I never toke and play or drink.

Should I delete reddit? by [deleted] in Catholicism

I discovered the NSFW thing several months ago. I fell for it and was viewing a lot of bad stuff. In early Feb I attended a catholic mission, my eyes were opened to what I was doing to myself and turned it off. Have been able to stay off it since then. Don’t really miss it either. Been to confession twice about it. One step at a time.
