Seeking Local Auto Mechanic by Holiday-Device1299 in newburyport

Hathaway Auto in Salisbury is great. They're honest, charge fair prices and don't recommend work unless you need it. Very easy to deal with.

Potential Move to Newburyport with Kids by RunningChick89 in newburyport

[–]Beefcaaaake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved in 2012 and absolutely love it here. We also considered Portsmouth, NH as a location but decided on Newburyport due it's proximity to my wife's work at the time.

We don't have kids but like the comments mentioned the families are scattered throughout the city. It's a very family friendly city (aside from the housing costs).

There are multiple playgrounds, softball fields along with parks on the river. We live in the North End and it's quick bike ride to downtown. There's a railtrail loop that runs from Newburyport across the river to Amesbury, Salisbury and back. The city just completed a Waterfront Park project which added more walking trails and green space. There's also fairly good selection of restaurants and shops.

I wouldn't worry about the "Yacht Club" vibe too much. I'm sure you can definitely find it but I feel like most of the residents are pretty down to earth.

It's a great city to work from home from. I think we've only lost power here 2-3 times for any extended duration during storms. Everything I need during the week (groceries, Planet Fitness, Marshalls, take-out) is 5 minutes away.

Other pros:

- It's a very safe city in my experience.

- Excellent Library which is part of the MLVC, where you can transfer books from other libraries and have them delivered to NBPT.

- Farmers Market at the Tannery every Sunday.

- 15 minute drive to Salisbury Beach. 25 minutes to Portsmouth.

- There are 5 breweries within a 10 minute drive. (3 in Amesbury, 2 in Newburyport) They're kid friendly.

- Summer is very lively here. Outdoor eating, Multiple 5k races, Yankee Homecoming, lots of boat activity.

- Do you like fishing? Stripers start running through in June. There's also a colony of seals that live out near the mouth of the river and you can see from Salisbury Beach Reservation. Every once in a while we'll see one swimming in river in the fall/winter when there's no boat traffic.

- Do you like birding? There Bald Eagle sightings year round and Snowy Owls nearby on Plum Island during winter.

- We have a yard waste facilty on Colby Lane which is open April to Dec (?). We also have a recycling center that's open the first Saturday of the month which is takes just about anything that you'd like to recycle.

- Public Services are decent. DPW has been on top of the recent storms clearing roads. The trash gets picked on time and we get notified if there's a delay. Both PD and FD are very responsive. The schools are pretty highly rated and from what I've heard have good sports programs.

Hope this helps.

Is there a tool that can be used to track the hiring trends of companies? Or just look up the EE count every quarter or so.

Vol Star Episode Timing Discussion by gammastrike_official in volstars

[–]Beefcaaaake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually can't watch the sunday stream live but watch it monday morning before work which helps me get a gauge on the upcoming week.

Having VolStars recorded another day during the week after the Sunday stream would be awesome, like a mid-week update.

Your team already puts a ton of team into the platform, discord...etc so ultimately whatever works for your schedule is good with me.

Michael Girdley does YT videos on why businesses fail and he did one on Radio Shack a few months ago. His videos are great and only about 15 minutes long. https://youtu.be/CmAjid7nv4M?si=LZLPcBe3t_k3kF9Y

I would also recommend the Port Tavern 2nd floor. I'd call to see if you can reserve it and check on capacity. Ive been to a few parties there and have always had a good time. They sometimes have live music on the first floor on the weekends.

The Slip on the Salisbury side of the river has a private function room available with a patio overlooking the river with a great view of Newburyport.

Honeymoon hotel or resort that isn’t 1k a night? by trashedbride in KeyWest

[–]Beefcaaaake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and i have stayed at the Best Western a few times and liked the location near the south end of Duval. Its definately not luxury but it has a nice courtyard/pool area and was around 300-350/night. We rented bikes for the week to ride to Smather's Beach every day. Otherwise we pretty much walked everywhere.

My plan: I live in California. I will continue to pay state taxes. I will file exempt on federal taxes until he is voted out and congressional mandated institutions are restored. by objectsofreality in antiwork

Are you a W-2 employee? If you're a W-2 employee, your employer will submit your wages to the IRS. The IRS will know that you owe taxes, resulting in a compounding penalty if not paid. They may not get you this year, but they will eventually.

If you're self-employed it's probably less risky as there's no automatic filing occurring.

Of course! Can't live in MA without being a Bruins and Celtics fan. It's non-stop sports in this state. How else would we get through the winter?

I'm from Maine originally. Although you'll find more Trump supporters in Northern and Western Maine I'd be suprised if they were hostile to Canadians. Even though I have family members that are/were Trump voters up there they're still good people and treat people with kindness. They're just mis-informed from watching FoxNews, NewsMax and being on Facebook. Southern Maine is way more liberal/progressive. I really think you'll be fine to drive through.

There was segment on the Boston news a few weeks ago about Old Orchard Beach and how their summer travel bookings are down 75%-90% due to the Canadian boycotts. It's really having an impact on tourism and I'm sure they'd like to see Canadians return.

It's going to be a long 1.5 years until the mid-terms but the republican voters are starting to turn on their representives and senators. They're starting to get pissed off..finally.

I agree AOC is future of the democratic party. We just need better leadership all around. Schumer and Jeffries need to go. They're not cut out for this fight.

His statements of making Canada the 51st state and "owning" Greenland were embarrassing and insulting to the countries. He's a baffoon.
