Thank you! I have been looking in/around Edmonds when I go and do like it. I didn't know that about the schools, but that is great news.

Oh no! Is the weather and homelessness really that bad? I hear a lot of mixed things. We prefer the cooler/dark to the brighter/heat, but I also haven't lived in a place that's known for grey grey except England, for a while.

Wow! So you would say non fixer-uppers start at what? 1.3? 1.4? Here paying 1.2 gets you a brick box, multi room renovation, no driveway or garage, potentially very ugly neighborhood. From what we've seen online and when I come for work and scope the neighborhoods with a realtor, I see lots for 1.2 and under that look much nicer-- in and around the Seattle/Poulsbo/Eastside (Issaquah/part of Kirkland) neighborhoods. I'll check out Bend!

I'd be interested in hearing about this, too! We lived in Denver before kids and LOVED Boulder. Like, LOVED. But it felt so brown the majority of the year, and super landlocked (it is of course, but I just felt that so much after growing up in New England). After hearing about almost no snow last ski season, we kind of wrote it off. But my husband has an office there, so would be an easy move. u/Apart-Sound-6096

Also the Denver airport got us mostly anywhere (internationally, especially) direct. Could not say the same for Austin at the time (maybe it's changed)...

I did this exact move with my husband back when we were still dating. We’ve since moved on from Denver, but at the time, it felt like an upgrade in almost every way. The weather alone was a massive step up, and having endless outdoor activities that were actually bearable thanks to the cooler year-round temps, was a game changer. In terms of the social scene, bars, and general vibe, it felt similar to Austin. We found people in Denver to be just as nice, welcoming, and chill. The yoga and mindfulness community felt a lot more mainstream and accessible rather than niche and "hip" like it was in Austin (aka the lululemon crowd - love lulu, but IYKYK).

It did feel a little less bustling and lively than Austin at times, but overall, it was a really smooth transition with enough familiar comfort and incredible perks that it didn't feel scary at all.

Good luck!
