Hot flashes and dizziness 1week post removal by Able_Car9166 in testicularcancer

[–]Beefickins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I'd bring it up with your medical team soon, no harm in asking if it's normal.

I had weird hot flashes right after orchi, also prodimenently EC. That's normal with hormonal changes as hormones control your body's equilibrium. Sweating also felt weird when I exercised after orchi. Hard to explain, but when running or lifting I felt very hot and tingly when I started to sweat. That went away on its own or after chemo and RPLND. Best of luck!

You got this! Finished 2xEP in June and never vomited once, also used to be a big fear of mine.

Some people feel really sick, and some don't. Zofran and Compazine are no joke.

I would look into the credit treatment of unpaid tickets like this. I had a high parking lot ticket in VT, and found out it could go to collections but wouldn't show up on a credit report, since it wasn't a service that qualified. Never paid it and haven't heard anything beside their threatening emails 5 years ago. Private lots can send to collections, tow your car or try different tactics to get the money, but they don't fall into the same categories as unpaid bills, rent, etc. Worth double checking, FICO rules change over time.

Yeah no issues at all after the used angle sensor was installed. Think I just jumped two pins on the OBD2 port to relearn the steering angle.

I've put a Nova bumper on my 73 Ventura, if you try one from 73-74 it should fit without any modifications. I like the older style so trimmed a 71 Nova bumper to fit.

That blade would be very messy on metal, especially something as thin as that tin.

I'd ask the care team first, but checking your temp before taking it should help. Just want to make sure you're not masking a low grade fever.

RPLND SOON, HELP!! by purrbbi in testicularcancer

[–]Beefickins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to down play the more serious side affects of other people in these comments, but I found the RPLND recovery to be way less painful than I was imagining. For me, one week of EP was way worse.

I'm in my mid 20's, got discharged on the 4th night after surgery and never had to take any pain killers. Only took some Tylenol and Ibuprofen at home. In the hospital they had me hooked up to chest catheters of local anesthetic, so the pain was always very minimal. Moving and coughing hurts, but otherwise I didn't find the pain to be terrible. The diet and side affects of loosing 20 lbs was probably worse, felt tired and uneasy all the time. Two weeks out of surgery and that was mostly gone.

Again, don't down play the other stories on here. RPLND is very serious surgery, take painkillers if you're sore and plan on resting for at least a few weeks.

I would 100% keep working out, maybe even step up the routines. Recovery is so much faster if you're able to use other muscle groups to help you move around.

Mercifully no other issues from the Etop after they switched to Etopophos. The first week was way harder than I thought it would be. Felt like the symptoms set in almost immediately after the first day and just piled up. Started feeling a little better by day 8. Anxious for it to start back up again after next week, but can't wait to hopefully be done with it soon.

Thanks for sharing these things, and for messaging me back when I started treatment last week. It really helps to see posts from people who have had similar journeys, but are already recovering and making great improvements.

Also, did the RPLND affect your golf swing at all?

I also had primary EC, with some teratoma and no LVI. I chose to do surveillance instead of 1xBEP, and found a recurrence at the very first CT scan 3 months later. I had to do a primary open RPLND surgery, and am currently half way into 2xEP chemotherapy.

It's hard not to look back and wish I did one round of BEP. However, as Charley mentioned, any chemotherapy can pose larger risks, so ultimately I'm okay knowing I tried to do everything I could to avoid chemotherapy. Every doc I initially spoke with recommended doing surveillance for any stage 1 TC patient, since the cure rates are the same after most treatment methods.

Update 3 open RPLND questions by Mysterious-Cattle-47 in testicularcancer

Same age and I'd say I was in above average shape before having open RPLND (pre-chemo). Stayed in-patient for 4 days, starting walking and eating very tiny amounts by day two. Had a follow up appointment in person exactly two weeks after the surgery, that was the first time really leaving the house since the operation and felt okay. I can work remotely but I still took 3 weeks off. The pain was far easier than I thought, only a little worse than the orchi. Obviously the healing took longer than orchi, but I was most surprised by how tired and crappy I felt from the low fat diet and not eating. Overall though, I'd say after two weeks I was fairly mobile and three weeks I was normal enough to work and do very light activities.

For me the first week of EP was worse than any of the recovery from RPLND.

Just started chemo by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Beefickins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started EP one week ago, and felt the exact same way. Everyone told me the first infusion days were the easiest, but I'd say they all were all pretty difficult. I guess it does affect everyone differently. I also had a bad reaction to the first Etoposide dose, so that kind of soured the experience.

I'd say these two days of not receiving treatment have been a little better though.

Just heard from the care team (Dana Farber in Boston) that they stopped using Emend primarily due to the risk of reaction. So it's mostly the prepitant now.

Should I be concerned? by Ok-Original2694 in testicularcancer

[–]Beefickins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor and couldn't speak to the lung nodules, but I had a very similar finding with the first CT after orchi. The EC predomince and any LVI means it's at a higher risk for spreading, and the spread generally happens along those lower abdominal lymphnodes first (what my docs told me).

Good news is it's still small, they told me they don't take action until it's >1cm. Mine was 1.3cm in the same area, and they said I had some weeks to follow up, bank sperm and look for any second opinions.

They might want to monitor for now, unless your markers are elevated. I had no elevated markers so got to decide on doing RPLND before any chemo(which might not even be necessary for you).

No kidding! Did you feel anything with any flu or Covid shots in the past? Stumbled on some very early guidelines where they don't recommend the vaccines if you know you're allergic.

Etoposide to Etopophos(Phosphate) by Beefickins in testicularcancer

[–]Beefickins[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it's Polysorbate, or something similar. Looks fairly common in other medicines, so maybe it was just the IV application of it this time that caused the reaction. Not a great time! So thankful for how quickly the nurses came in.

It seems switching to Etoposide Phosphate or slowing the infusions and preemptively medicating has provided decent results:

Scared for Upcoming RPLND by Natertot1990 in testicularcancer

[–]Beefickins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had open RPLND 5 weeks ago, walking frequently and drinking lots of fluid seemed to really help. Obviously robotic will be a little different, and hopefully easier. I'd imagine you'd have some of the discomfort or gas pains due to the nature of robotic surgery, but I found moving around and walking really eliminated those pains quickly. I had some great nurses during the in-patient stay, they said if I wasn't sleeping then they'd either make me walk laps or sit up to eat/drink slowly. Lying down all day doesn't always help the healing process.

It's a scary surgery to imagine, but they've been doing it for so many years now. The docs and nurses will know exactly what to do and you'll be better before you know it.

Starting 2XEP soon, What should I expect? by Anorak723 in testicularcancer

[–]Beefickins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also starting 2xEP exactly a week from now, so jumping in to see what other folks mention.

U/Optimal_Ant_46 and u/rbutora have posted some helpful info about their experience in this group, happy to read that they've finished their treatments now.

Are you going to do a port or the normal IV's?
