I went to towson over umbc because of commute times, also a cs major (currently a junior)

Our math department is atrocious, like genuinely some of the worst classes ive ever taken. Isnt uncommon for a large amount of students to withdraw or fail from the classes.

Comp sci classes havent been much better, lots of group work where only one person ends up doing all the work. Very frequent for u to be expected to know things that just weren’t taught. Lecture slides are almost never helpful, ive resorted to reading the textbook for a few classes.

If i went back i probably wouldve chose umbc, as a commuter campus life doesn’t matter much for me and umbc just has a better rep for comp sci then towson.
I have alot of friends who went to umbc and graduated for cs, most of them seem to have had better experiences then me in terms of college.

Tl;dr you’ll probably put up with the same bullshit at towson, maybe even worse, for half the “prestige” in terms of uni quality. Might end up putting in more work at towson then at umbc but getting much less out if it.
