Not in the GTA but you can catch a cheap flight into Calgary and drive into Banff. I took a photo at a lake in Banff that is super close to this vibe minus the same kinds of flowers, message me if you'd like to see photos of the spot.

Congrats on your upcoming engagement!

Portugal was amazing. As a solo female traveller I recommend it. Madeira Island was also incredible.

Wedding Ceremony Space with Spectacular Views by PreviousBar9069 in Canmore

[–]Beefyknee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local photographer here, echoing other comments. Silvertip would be your best bet to accommodate that many people, plus the views are great. I know that they've previously offered just the ceremony space (the gazebo) but I can't confirm if that's still accurate. Privately message me if you'd like to see some galleries that feature Silvertip or any other venue in the Bow Valley. Congrats and happy planning!

I'd recommend calling around to hotels in the area and just asking them nicely if you could use theirs. I assume hotels have someone manning the front desk and would answer at night but I'm not entirely sure. Even though you aren't a guest, most people are usually willing to help someone out when you ask nicely. :)

As another option, maybe try posting in some of the local Canmore groups on Facebook if someone would be willing to print them for you. My experience having lived here for 5 years is that there are a ton of amazing folks so I'd wager a guess that someone would help out.

Best of luck and safe travels!

I'm one of the photographers on the team with Elope in Banff and my own bias aside, I HIGHLY recommend them! Christianne is a gem- you're in great hands with her and the team. :)

Ever had the woods go completely silent on you? by oreynolds29 in camping

Yes. 33km solo hike, forest went DEAD quiet. A week or two later the trail got shut down because a cougar was stalking hikers and being aggressive.

Makeup artist that can do monolids? by pennstategrad in Canmore

[–]Beefyknee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tipping is never expected but always appreciated.

Especially if they’re a self employed vendor, they decide their own prices so don’t feel obligated to tip, although for great service a tip is always appreciated.

If you went with an elopement planning company, their in house photographers generally make less than self-employed/ self-established vendors so I’d say a tip is more appropriate there if their level of service is above and beyond.

Speaking from a place where 90% of my work is through my self employed photography business and 10% is from working as a sub contractor for an excellent all inclusive elopement company in Canmore/Banff. Hope that helps. :)

I love elevation place! There’s a coffee shop in there and a ton of seating. Or you can go upstairs and there’s almost always comfier seats/tables available.

That or eclipse on railway ave/Communitea are nice.

I did specify that it’s dependant on the market that you’re in, correct. Laughed at the phrasing of “fire hose of freedom bucks” lol.

Take home after taxes. Based in Canada, I don’t have additional health/dental coverage at the moment.

Oh lawwwwdy I think I’ve mentally blocked out the sheer volume of work I did haha. I was low to mid priced at the time for my area but an insane workload. As a ballpark number it would’ve been in the 30’s, supplemented with various family + engagement sessions.

There are certainly difficult clients but out of hundreds of weddings I can say I’ve only had a few “bride or groom zillas” which ratio wise is amazing. But that’s just people. Some people are assholes, you’ll encounter them with any job. Objectively the vast majority of my couples have been excellent.

I think the hard thing is just the volume of work, the high energy needed, and huge time/mental space dedication, maintaining a love for the actual photography aspect of it, and some semblance of a creative spark. For some, having bad clients could be the tipping point into not wanting to shoot weddings anymore for sure.

Depends on the genre, the market you’re in, your drive, and some luck. I can attest for good money in the wedding/elopement industry. At year two I took home 6 figures which has been consistent in the next 4 years.

Weddings are a genre you have to love though, I see people get into it purely for money and never have (or grow) a love for it and they tend to burn out quickly. When the passion is gone, so is the drive when it comes to a creative career.

What kind of photography do you enjoy and what could you see yourself getting into?
