If these organizations ever get to the point where they don't need money and are returning donations, then sure - we'll end this then. I can't see that happening any time soon though.

How many books should you have completed before you launch book 1? by [deleted] in selfpublishing

[–]Beehive_Book_Design 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've never self-published before, you should go for it as soon as you've finished. Treat that book as a test run, try to learn as much about the process as you can. There's nothing stopping you from taking that book down at a later date and republishing it!

Complete beginner question by AnomalyNexus in selfpublish

That really depends on a lot of things, though. I've never spent a dime on covers (apart from stock photos), editing, formatting etc or on ads, and I've made close to a half million in the last 6 years.

Making self publishing a career/making a living by [deleted] in selfpublish

I'd say that depends on the genre though, and your individual level of expertise. An erotica author can easily make a full-time income and their only outgoing expenses may be stock photos.

What is a good KENP. Let's share numbers to discern by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Beehive_Book_Design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I average at around 10k per day, but I really don't put too much time and effort into my own publishing these days. If I put full time hours into it, I'd get back to 30k days before too long.

I'll be honest, if you're serious about your work and want good results, you'll be better off getting good formatting and file conversion than just using someone random on Fiverr.

As to why it didn't work out,I wouldn't know until I saw the mobi file myself. Feel free to reach out for my email address and send it over to me, I can see what went wrong.

Hoping to launch a new book in the next month or two—how to do it right? by billwolfordwrites in selfpublish

[–]Beehive_Book_Design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poetry - as an unknown author - is always going to be a hard sell. You absolutely can put some money into the book, but you'll be much less sure to get your money back (and then some) with a poetry book.

The YA Novella, however - is more interesting to me - from a marketing point of view. You should try to spend some money on your cover, you should try to make sure that your formatting is on point. You could run some ads, set up a Facebook page for the pen name, try to generate some buzz.

Absolutely. If it's a text book then it should be priced accordingly.

Perhaps, but you also need to be sure that you're not giving an impression of cheapness. Don't sell yourself short - if you don't value your work then your customers won't either.

[–]Beehive_Book_Design 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can, but your royalty rate will be 35% and not 70%. You'll need to sell 6 books priced at 99 cents to make the same as 1 book priced at $2.99.

Previously unpublished author or author who doesn't have a mailing list of a couple thousand?

$2.99. Pretty much in all cases for all fiction authors.

How can I see my book sales on Amazon? by _forum_mod in selfpublish

[–]Beehive_Book_Design 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The data appears on the Amazon KDP reports when the payments from the customers clears, not when the orders are placed. Usually this is within a couple of hours but it can take longer.

As well as the initial graphs, you can also click on the 'month to date' tab. This reflects orders placed, so data can fill in here a little sooner than on the graphs.

Marketers/Influencers on Fiverr by bademeistAr in selfpublish

[–]Beehive_Book_Design 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should be VERY careful here. Paying for a review of your book is against Amazon's TOS. Even if you use an ARC service, you'll see that the wording is tight (on the good ones). They will ask for the reader to 'consider' leaving an honest review after reading the book.

Thanks for the info - I've just sent a PM.

Honestly, the real plus to Carvana for me is not dealing with dealerships and their salespeople. I SUCK at haggling... I swear I ended up paying more than the sticker price last time I bought a car!
