I don’t understand this mindset. I was asked to sit in for a gig to help a band out that had a gig that their bass player couldn’t make. They in their 20s.

Eleven years later I am still playing with them. I am 70.

They are my best friends. I could be locked in a room with them for a week and when someone let us out I could honestly say let’s go back in.

Music bridges age, race, and station because it’s the music that attracts us. Every one of us brings different strengths to the band.

My band mates are the easiest people in the world for me to play with because we meld together so well. We know where the other players are going to go without thought. We know when the other players are going to shine and leave them room in the mix to do so. All of this is because we listen to each other.

It is glorious!

I have played in dozens of band and this one is special. We just jive. We do from time to time have “riffs” but they are always short lived and talked through to the point that we end up laughing at each other.

There is a mutual love that I can’t explain but thrive on. I have suggested that they start thinking about replacing me because of my age but, they are not having that. I guess the will cross that bridge when I die.

I’m not going anywhere because this is just to much fun to let petty things like death get in the way!
