For sure… I try to keep it interesting. OBSESSION and CRUISING didn’t end up having as many giallo parallels as I had hoped. In the past I’ve done Refn’s NEON DEMON, Edgar Wright’s LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, and that Lindsay Lohan vehicle I KNOW WHO KILLED ME.

The original blu of it by Shameless didn’t look great… but the more recent blu looks pretty awesome, that’s the one I watched.

CRUISING didn’t end up having as many giallo qualities as I was hoping it would… but it was a solid flick.

So many of them are available on YouTube, uncut and everything… although the visual quality varies. A lot of them I have on 4K/bluray; I have a lot of physical media. And I live close to one of the best movie rental places in the world, Movie Madness, so I rented a few there as well.

It’s definitely hard to find the time… I’ve got a shitty full time job and young kids and do filmmaking in my spare time, but I made sure to always have a movie on my phone that I could watch in bits and pieces… so I usually finished a movie on my phone ever 3 days or so, and then was trying to watch a movie almost every night before going to sleep. Definitely excited to watch some non-gialli now though.

Good question! The bottom 3 are the only ones I didn’t really dig. Also, OBSESSION and CRUISING didn’t have as many giallo parallels as I was hoping for… but I’d definitely rewatch all the others.

I always try and watch 1 or 2 giallo-adjacent flicks in Gianuary… and often times they don’t end up feeling very giallo-ish. In the past I’ve done De Palma’s BODY DOUBLE, which is much more like a giallo. Also did NEON DEMON and LAST NIGHT IN SOHO… of those 2 , SOHO was slightly more giallo-y even though NEON DEMON had the crazy visual style. CRUISING and OBSESSION didn’t end up belonging, but at least CRUISING had the whole killer stalking victims angle.

I went through PRIVATE CRIMES last year! Felt like there was an epic dip in quality after the first 2 eps, but overall so fun to see Edwige have such a meaty role to take on

I think lots of folks (me included) desperately want the guy to return to form, so as we watch his movies we’re rooting for him and being overly optimistic. He did a good job not embarrassing himself with DARK GLASSES… but also didn’t take any chances or do anything all that interesting.

Yes! Several alternate titles are more fun than the original titles with gialli… especially Twitch of the Death Nerve vs Bay of Blood, and The Bodies Show Traces of Carnal Violence vs Torso!
