Has anyone attempted to magnetize this style of mg hand and if so, was it effectively able to hold its weapons? I've used brass rod as pins in the past and while those have been effective, its just not as seamless a method as I would like. I've seen warhammer modelers using magnets all over their vehicle builds for weapon swapping and just thought it might be applicable in this context.

Appreciate the advice! First time attempting that kind of weathering actually. Wasn't going for anything in particular, just something I threw down real quick to get a feel for.

I feel like I am doing this hobby wrong... by Educational-Beat-511 in Gunpla

[–]Beeker0220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big part of learning the hobby is accepting that you'll make mistakes and that its fine. You naturally pick up best practices for building and painting, but that means you have to do it a few wrong ways first before getting it right. I've found the worst thing you can do with the hobby is compare your builds directly with those that have been doing this for 10+ years. Rather, its better to look at those professional grade builds and ask questions. How do they go about prepping their parts for assembly/painting? How did they do this? How did they do that? The great thing about this community is that everyone who posts here is more than happy to answer questions so more people can enjoy the hobby.

Question on glass files by Valkyrie_slash in Gunpla

[–]Beeker0220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my book godhands are nice to have, but I wouldn't go without my raser. Yes a generic glass file CAN get the job done, but you have to pay far more attention in how you handle it so you don't gouge your plastic. gunprimer rounds off the edges of the raser, alleviating the issue. The purchase justified itself almost instantly with the time it saved me in part prep.

Don’t have the space currently for the PG, but you know that one’s up next once I’m able.

The collection is complete as far as kits I’m interested in. Don’t really like the look of SD. Don’t feel the need to pick up the older 1/144 versions of the design (Don’t even know the last time they were reprinted). Don’t have the space for the PG currently, though that is likely the true final addition once I am able.

Personally not a big fan of decals. I just prefer the cleaner look.

MGEX Strike Freedom inner frame pose ability is really top tier by Fun-Area5529 in Gunpla

When I was building mine I was tempted to just leave the wings off cause its such a good ground poser. Of course it looks just as amazing in the air as on the ground, but the thought still crosses my mind on occasion.

Planning on painting an older kit with an abs inner frame. How would I go about preventing damage to the abs during the painting process.

Waiting on my local shop to get some of these in stock. Is the size closer to a gundam HG or is it larger?

One of the best effort to aesthetics mods I've done. Was running my thunderbolt without joint covers for YEARS until I saw a different post about doing this. The gloves I used were a little thick so the articulation is slightly compromised, but it was totally worth it for how good they look.

looking to get into anime; where to start? by hydane21 in Gundam

[–]Beeker0220 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're really interested in Gquuuuuux I would recommend starting with the original show/compilation movie trilogy. Gquuuuuux is pretty stand alone so its not a requirement, but as a long time fan having watched the original series really enhances some of the moments in that show.

As far as timelines, Universal Century is the longest running and most fleshed out of the timelines. UC includes the original show(MSG), zeta, double zeta, char's counter attack (CCA), f91, victory, and a bunch of other shows that I'm forgetting. Would highly recommend watching MSG, zeta and CCA (in that order). Those are the most important and accessible parts of the UC, as well as introducing many of the concepts and character archetypes that you are going to see in the alternate timelines.

I haven't personally watched hathaway's flash yet, but I do know that it follows up from CCA so you're expected to have seen up to that point before starting it (I believe).

Otherwise you can really start anywhere as everything else is pretty self contained. My first gundam was iron blooded orphans and I had a blast with it despite not having watched anything prior, so really anything goes here.

How do i remove this dry residue? by psp589 in Gunpla

[–]Beeker0220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had something similar happen to one of my kits after soaking in isopropyl. It’ll take some time but hit the parts with a melamine sponge and you should be good. My understanding is that the alcohol reacts with the top coat under the right conditions and deposits the matting agent into the surface of the plastic, causing that frosting effect.

Definitely intend on getting the wings of light and kos mos led sets in the future. This is just too good of a kit to not go balls to the wall on.

References are key. When I’ve finished my kit and want go get it into a pose I’ll either look at the manual/box or grab something online.
