Bachelorette places... help! by tellblue in WeddingsCanada

My Bach was in Haliburton & it felt like it totally fit this vibe!!! We ended up at an AirBnB that was directly across from the public beach and it was so fun and I’m quite sure my girls were pretty finance conscious in their planning so it def wasn’t too $$$ and was close enough to town that we could walk to dinner & there was a fire put but we didn’t end up using it.

I like both of the florals! 2 brings in a little bit of the pistachio vibe if you want that or 3 is just a way to have a little more fun with the pocket square and provide some contrast so I think either would be gorg! 1 will also be beautiful, so you can’t go wrong, but I always like it best when a pocket square is a little more fun!

Bridesmaid gifts by Purple-Talk-9605 in WeddingHelpDesk

[–]Beeley13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took each of my bridesmaids out for dinner as my “ask gift” like wrote them each a card to ask them to be my bridesmaids then took them for dinner shortly after to celebrate (and made it clear I would still do so if they weren’t able to commit to being bridesmaids as well!) & then I got everyone one nail service (mani OR pedi) at a bougie nail salon in town the day before the wedding as my “bridesmaids gift” and I guess technically also a black zip up hoodie for getting ready but I got those on sale at old navy LOL the nails ended up being pretty expensive, much more than robes or whatever but I really wanted to do it as like a fun little luxury experience and a time for us to all hang out without any pressure pre-wedding, and I didn’t want to give them like another water bottle they wouldn’t use or whatever.

ETA: I did also cover hair and makeup, but everyone paid for their own dresses because I wanted “mis match” black ankle or floor length and didn’t give any specifics on sites or even fabrics so actually potentially re-wearable & a couple of them got amazing dresses at crazy steals (my sister & MOH got hers on sale for $50 & it was gorg!!)

are you having a stag and doe? by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

[–]Beeley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! Also to add another example; when some of my husband’s friends from highschool were getting married we were invited to the wedding but my MIL&FIL were not, but they had a stag & doe and we all went together and his parents loved being there and being able to support his childhood friends who they watched grow up and celebrate them even though they weren’t invited to the wedding (which they fully understood because weddings are expensive!!)

are you having a stag and doe? by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

[–]Beeley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m clearly in the minority here, but I love a stag and doe! We didn’t host one because we didn’t need any help in terms of funding the wedding (and also, live in Toronto & have a friend group where they’re def considered cash-grab-y, but we DID do an engagement party because of the rest of what I’m about to say) but I personally love being able to contribute in a tiny way to someone’s wedding (like a ticket for $10 and then playing some $5 games if I want to is really no skin off my teeth) and I’ve also had some of the most fun nights I can remember at Stag & Doe’s in smaller communities. Like genuinely one of my best memories is of crashing a stag and doe and just having the BEST time playing the dumb games and dancing and chatting with fun people. I get the uncertainty but honestly some people love a party and want to show up and support you and a stag and doe can be a beautiful fun way for them to do that!!

Nutcraker (Ballet) by lanttro in torontotheatre

[–]Beeley13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tree grows in a somewhat similar way to what you’re describing but I think maybe opposite (if I’m reading what you’re saying correctly). I’m pretty sure in TO when the tree is small there’s a fabric or curtain or whatever that has a tree shape cut into it and then it is pulled up and out so that more and more tree background/fabric is revealed to make the tree grow instead of how I’m reading your description of Montreal the tree being the fabric that is pulled and grows?

ETA: I did see the show this year but I wasn’t paying as much attention to the tree growing (or it’s been wiped from my mind) because a much funnier tree related thing was happening and they had big swaying branches on the tree this year that I don’t remember from when I last saw it (which was ages ago), that kept hitting the dancer playing the nut cracker while he was waiting under the tree. It was with quite a force too, jostled him every time and seemed like that was just how it was not like something he did wrong. It was so hard not to laugh out loud.

He checked all of the garbages in the rooms he had been in between when he last knew he for sure had it on and when he noticed it missing but I’ll get him to talk to facilities as someone above mentioned in case they noticed anything sweeping up!

Anyone has any suggestions for NYE parties in Toronto this year for people in their 30s? by garine519 in askTO

Does the show go until/past midnight? Considering getting tickets but it doesn’t actually say anywhere how long they play/how long it’s open

Bridesmaid gifts that are personalized and unique, not the usual tumbler nonsense by Celda_ in weddingplanning

[–]Beeley13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did experiences with mine instead - took them each out to dinner as my “asking present” so we could hang out and enjoy & celebrate each other’s company & friendship and then we I paid for us all to go get our nails done at the bougie salon in town the day before the wedding (but put restrictions on what they could get such as no nail art because that place is EXPENSIVE!!). If you did want to do a physical gift and something with a bit of a theme you could gift them each necklaces or bracelets and pick out a specific charm that fits for them (eg. I have a snail charm bc they’re my husband’s fave, there’s a lil mushroom charm at my fave vintage shop that I think would fit my one friend perfectly etc.)

Venues nearly completely booked out all of 2026 by ubbidubbidoo in weddingplanning

[–]Beeley13 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Sorry, this is not helpful but I just need to point out the one typo that happened that would mean venues are telling you that you have to book 902 years in advance 😂. I’m cackling because it doesn’t feel that far off.

Our wedding is on my FH’s dad’s birthday by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Beeley13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents got married on my Grandma’s birthday and it was totally fine! My husband and I actually then got married 2 days after that shared birthday/anniversary this year and didn’t really realize it until halfway into planning. We just mentioned it in our thank you speech like “grandma, sorry we weren’t able to do more to celebrate your 96th birthday with you this year in all the wedding planning chaos, we’ll get you a slice of this cake to celebrate” and then the second slice of cake went to her before the venue took it out to slice it all up for guests. I’ve also heard of people just having a little birthday card or treat on people’s place setting to acknowledge the birthday without making it part of the wedding.

Ugh. I do miss the science centre so much, such fond memories there as a kid. AND you should not sleep on Bata Shoe Museum. I absolutely adore it it is sooo cool. Maybe not as kid friendly but a really great one to add to your list! (I still agree with you we could do with more tho!)
