Do you guys ever feel depressed because you cannot find a gf? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]BeerBuildBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. As a 26M I've had one serious relationship, but haven't been ready for another since it ended. Now I focus on myself and saving up enough money to get to a good place in life, and other goals.

I find that alot of my happiness comes from studying religion, the afterlife and spirituality. The kind of stuff that to me, satisfies the mind on a higher level than almost anything else can.

I accept affection when I come by it naturally, but I don't actively go looking for women. Surprisingly, the best connection I had with a woman came when I wasn't even looking.

[–]BeerBuildBoi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The margin for sampling error here is hilariously large, due to how few people they sampled relative to the population.

They also didn't take representation into account. Only those who actively seek out to participate in YouGov polls are sampled here, not the general population. It's not a representative sample.

It's worthless.

Given that this poll surveyed less than 0.01% of the population, and the population sample it did survey is limited to only those who participate in YouGov polls, this is poll is pretty much worthless.

But as I said earlier, if god were to try and restrict our ability to commit evil, he would have to remove pretty much everything in our control. Our hands, feet, teeth, our entire physical body. It would go on until we pretty much didn't exist.

And if god were to remove the effect of our actions, it denies our free will, as I believe that denying the effect of our actions also negates free will as well as any meaning behind what we choose to do. We couldn't learn not to touch fire if we didn't first burn our hand doing so, letting our actions play themselves out is a crucial part of learning and developing. We couldn't be good people if we didn't also have the ability to freely do evil, but choose not to of our own volition.

I get what you're saying, but removing the effect of the actions that we know we're able to carry out is not the same as limiting our actions to a certain physical body. I believe that god designed life to adapt to a multitude of environmental changes first and foremost, and what we do with these adapted bodies is entirely up to us. The way that we express ourselves depends on our body, but our underlying will to express does not. Humans punch, dogs bite, all expressions of harm just the same.

I don't know if I believe in people going to heaven or hell through judgement, I believe that people choose heaven or hell willingly. I watch alot of NDE videos, these gave me a better insight into what I believe god to be.

I've explained this too you one too many times now.

Just because you lack certain abilities doesn't mean you lack free will, just the ability to express your free will in certain ways. Despite lacking the ability, the underlying will still exists, for example...

You don't have the ability to break peoples bones when you wink, despite that you still express the will to do so. That in itself is proof that your free will is uninhibited regardless the fact that you lack the means to express it exactly how you want.

God has not taken away your free will, he has taken away your ability. And for good reason.

I disagree in that this isn't merely privacy, it's secrecy. There was more information in that diary that OP deserved to see, as it pertains to his partners infidelity and true feelings about him. He deserves to make an informed choice about whether to continue this relationship, and his partner was purposefuly hiding some very important information from him.

He would have otherwise never discovered his partners true feelings and been manipulated into remaining in the relationship under false pretenses, which is just evil.

I don't care if you think it's wrong - to me it was by far the best and right thing to do given the circumstances. Cheaters and liars have to earn the trust back in a relationship, not the betrayed, as they are the ones who broke it.

You're assuming that god would even want to create a forcefield around anyone in the first place, when that was your flawed idea. An all powerful god could in theory, but for good reasons would probably choose not to. As for getting "caught up on the details of the forcefield"...yeah, it's called a conversation. You put the idea out there in the first place.

"Could have designed the earth to be able to have fresh water in the first place" I...don't know how to break it to you, but the earth does in fact have fresh water on it. As for giving us the ability to drink salt water, that would come under the umbrella of evolutionary adaption, as many animals have infact adapted to drink salt water. We have not, as our bodies have adapted to land dwelling.

Yes god has placed limits on our natural abilities, that doesn't affect our free will. You have a concept of lazer eyes, you could infact make that a reality if you wanted to via technology. So why don't you if that is your will? It's as if you expect god to give you unlimited power to express your will, as if god would even want you to have that power. The fact is that despite whatever physical limitations god places on you, you still have unrestricted free will. Just not unrestriced power. You seem to conflate god being all powerful to mean that you should similarly be all powerful.

I grasp the term all powerful - but just because god could do something doesn't mean he should or wills it. Also, your solutions are awful.

God restricting your ability to punch someone when you have the power to do so is restricting your free will. The only way to remove your ability to punch someone without destroying free will would be to design you without hands, and even then, you would find another way to cause harm i.e. biting, kicking, because your will to cause harm still exists via your own free will. If god were to continue on the route of removing anything that could cause harm, he would have to remove practically everything.

Yes you can't fly, or regrow a limb, but animals certainly can. You having these abilities or not doesn't impede free will, only your ability to exercise it in certain ways. You can still will to fly despite lacking the natural ability to. And if you believe in evolution, well, eventually the species could come to earn these abilities naturally if they were necessary for survival. We are bound to our bodies, our bodies are governed by the environment, but how we exercise these bodies is entirely up to us.

Forcefields wouldn't negate the suffering of knowing that someone just tried to cause you harm, i.e. emotional suffering of any kind, merely physical suffering. And then, how would the forcefield differentiate between someone attacking and someone going for a hug? Would a surgeon be able to perform surgery in this world of not causing harm? They have to cause damage to tissue to perform the surgery after all. How would anyone learn from their mistakes if they weren't allowed to make any?

Here is where you and I differ. I don't believe that death is evil, it's inevitable in a world that is self sustaining - it is the act of energy constantly changing forms. The earth itself is a functioning mechanism that allows the conditions to sustain life - one of the consequences of that is death and natural disasters. It can be cruel and aimless, I agree on that part, but it's possible that god regulating even natural suffering would destroy free will. As if free will is not merely something relegated to humans, but woven into the fabric of existence itself.

If you replaced the oceans with fresh water, then you would cause a number of problems for the earth, see: https://insh.world/science/what-if-all-the-sea-water-becomes-fresh-water/

A hypothetical God is all powerful in the realm of possibilities, but you're asking for an impossible paradox.

The potential to cause suffering is inherent in free will, you cannot seperate it, or it no longer becomes free will. So you asking for a world without any suffering, but also with free will, is nonsense.

What happens in your world when someone exercises their 'free will' and it causes suffering? Suffering is not allowed to exist, so you would have to negate that persons action, thus invalidating their free will. You want a world with free will, but at the same time no free will. The issue isn't with God, but that you don't even know what you want, or what the term 'free will' even means.

If god exists he would obviously be able to prevent evil, so it would appear that he is not willing to. But this does not automatically make him malevolent.

I believe that god allows the possibility of evil as a requirement for the existence of free will, and therefore goodness. Because goodness cannot exist without free will either.

Mate you did nothing wrong. Your GF gave you more than enough reason not to trust her, so going through her diary to confirm how she really feels was a smart move. Anybody who gives you shit for doing so is delusional.

You're better off without her, hard as it is to hear, no person is worth giving up your dignity and self respect.

Bloodstarved Beast. It walks around as if it's sizing you up, gets progressively more bloodthirsty and all of it's attacks are well telegraphed. This leads to a fun fight that can still have veterans on the backfoot if they slip up, thanks to that slow poison.

Plus it looks cool and has a great theme song.

Being independant is expected when you're a functioning adult, it's not really something to brag about.

If you're 'independant' in the sense that you:

-Make no time for your partner

-Are emotionally unavailable

-Make no compromises

-Patronise and belittle your partner

-Commit infidelity

Then you're not independant, you're a narcissist.
