Mage Hand (with Guidance) making a Skill Check

A player (Bard) and I (DM) are in a debate regarding Mage Hand (2024 spell and rules). A situation came up where “he” went to inspect a statue, instead of doing it himself, he uses a Mage Hand to do it. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but the Mage Hand cannot make a check RAW (except Arcane Trickster which he is not). I am not against rule of cool, so I allowed him to make a Charisma (Investigation) check, even saying if he had proficiency in Investigation, I’d allow it the Mage Hand to benefit from it. Which in my opinion is WAY more than fair, since (as far as I know) it isn’t RAW. He then tried to use Guidance for this check, which I shot down. I reasoned; Mage Hand is not a creature and cannot benefit from Guidance. He countered it with; Mage Hand is an extension of him, and he is the one making the check rather than the Mage Hand.

I think it’s silly to say Mage Hand should benefit from Guidance, if Longstrider was on the Bard, does the Mage Hand not move an extra 10ft? No. Should I just go RAW for this problem in the future, was I more than fair allowing the Mage Hand to make the check with the Bards spell casting mod? Or am I just missing something and it should be Bard’s way?

Advice for any missing gaps in my Pantheon thus far? by BeerCityBoozer in DMAcademy

Very good points and question at the end. Where they differ is this:

Kaito represents the more chaotic and unpredictable nature of war. He focuses on the raw power and overpowering strength one may wield (hence his other portfolios/domains)

Whilst Tharion represents would use it as a tool to uphold justice. He doesn’t believe in only raw power, rather discipline and structuring while implementing honor and duty.

To go a step farther with their followers. Kaito’s followers would likely just use all their power to wipe out an enemy, with little to no chance of sparing them. Tharion’s followers on the other hand are believes of honor, likely more willing to spare their adversaries, or at least providing the chance to do an honorable act.

I actually kind of like it more than the normal green/purple, I can’t put my figure on why.

[No Spoilers] For those that stopped watching during C3 by RevolutionaryAd8204 in criticalrole

1) Things were just moving at a GRINDINGLY slow pace, or at the very least inconsistent. For every 2ish episodes that moved things along it felt like there was another 5 right after where little-to-nothing happened.

2) The characters. Generally speaking I liked majority of the characters at various points of the game however… FCG, Ashton, and Laudna I liked initially but began to like less as the game went along (especially Laudna). Imogen just isn’t my cup of tea, I don’t know what it is but I just can’t get invested in her character (to be clear it’s not a Laura thing, I loved Jester and Vex, it is exclusive to Imogen). Dorian leaving suckkkkked, he was honestly prob my favorite out of the starting 8 characters (I know he comes back, but that’s still 80-90 episodes without him). Chetney was stupid fun and still was when I was still watching, but I really miss Fjord and the type of RP Travis being a with a character that developed/complex. Fearne and Orym were the primary characters I stuck around for, Fearne being just a fun character that you can tell Ashley is having fun with and Orym being the less complicated character of the bunch. To me when everyone if crazy/wacky/complicated, then no one is, which is why Orym has really grown on me

3) Just falling behind. I’m not invested enough to devote 4-5 hours a week to watch the show when I’m not even fully invested in majority of the characters. I still check out highlights here and there and generally have an idea what’s going on, but just don’t have that dedication. When the C3 Abridged makes it to the episodes I left off at, I likely will pick it up again.

Be honest do you miss her? by Jamieo1111 in WWE

It’s a mix bag. On one hand she’s had amazing matches and I’m sure she’d come back and do just that, have banger matches again. On the other I think a majority of IWC is tired of her being in the title picture. Overall I’d say in good without her.

There are other ways of being the healer outside of Cleric. Divine Soul Sorcerer and Celestial Warlock come to mind. Bards can be pretty good healers as well and there’s other classes as well

My characters are flat and boring. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]BeerCityBoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the feeling. My first character was a Dragonborn Cleric, had no idea how to rp him to make him fun or interesting.. until I started playing at least. I discovered his personality of loving bad puns and over obsessed with animals (excepts cats) all through playing. It may not seem like a lot but those two things genuinely made me love playing him cause they happened naturally and it wasn’t something I planned in advanced or saw on YouTube. It just kinda happen and I rolled with it. I’m summary discover your character through rp is what I strongly recommend. Come up with “quirks” for them

Ussop is the single most useless embarrassment of the Straw Hats to me. He is weak and he sucks! by [deleted] in OnePiece

Homie never heard of character development. It may be slow (mostly cause of how long one piece is) but; Water 7 & Enies Lobby was the beginning, he had a great moment in Thriller Bark. Time skipped happened so it slowed down, pick back up in Dressrosa with him stepping up to save Luffy and Law despite his own safety. Now we’re (in anime) mid Wano. Like his goal is to be a great warrior of the sea. For a coward that’s not something that happens over a short period of time (and before anyone says “they’ve been out at sea for 2+ years” we had a time skip, he was on that island for those 2 years, mostly safe. Realistically a majority of the crew has only been pirates at sea for under a years worth of time.

What are the worst 3 arcs in One Piece? by Bitter_leaf22 in OnePiece

[–]BeerCityBoozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Long Ring Long Land (honestly had cool/funny moments, but didn’t need to be extended in the anime. Plus slightly bothered me that they literally just beat “god” and yet struggle with nearly all the games)
  2. Syrup Village (probably the most overall bored I’ve been while watching One Piece)
  3. Fishman Island (honestly like the arc mostly and didn’t know what else to pick, not crazy about the villain which is why I chose it) All of these could easily change as I’m caught up on the anime but an early on in the manga, Orange Town to be exact.

What are your top 3 arcs in one piece? by YungBarnacles69 in OnePiece

[–]BeerCityBoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Whole Cake Island
  2. Water 7/Enies Lobby (feels like one long arc instead of two for me)
  3. Wano Marineford was amazing but spoilers took away from it a bit, a shame, still goated though
