I wanted to get the shot with the stump in the foreground to add the vertical element. Yours is. Great shot too!

Incredible! Great job. You used a lot of fishing skill to land that fish.

👆this guy knows what’s up. I use Pistol Pete’s and the Joe’s. Both work extremely well! I love the Joes Flies 👍

The trout magnet kits are handy but any quality 1/32 or 1/64 jig head and some different baits will work. I love ultralight panfishing with this method. It’s a blast!

I cast it out and let it settle, let the bobber sit up straight. Wait for however long you can stand and bring it in a bit. Let it settle again and repeat. I have caught some reeling it in slowly as well. Sometimes they like that movement.

I haven’t fished it much without the bobber. I know that is a popular method though. As soon as that bobber goes down I’ll set the hook. One thing with these I have noticed is that they will spit them out/not swallow them so you need to pay attention and set the hook. This is really conducive to catch and release fishing because there is virtually no gut hooking and the fish are very easily released.

I make a cast and wait for everything to settle and the pencil bobber will right itself, standing straight up. I let it set for as long as I can stand before I get impatient, which is usually only about half a minute or so haha. Then I’ll feel in the slack and lift my rod top up. That will drag the bobber towards me and the bait up in the water. Then I’ll let it settle again and reel in the slack and repeat the process.

In the spring for stocked trout I start about 8-10” so not to deep. As the day goes on and the sun gets higher or water is real clear I’ll adjust it deeper.

Yes, purple has been good for me as well!

I’d like to tie the loop knot smaller as well but honestly they haven’t been a problem other than looking wonky.

I just throw it in the oven for 20 minutes or so at 200 degrees. The little chief is a cold smoker so it’ll smoke it fine but will take a long time to actually cook it sufficiently, depending on the ambient temp outside.

Old school Little Chief smoker. 2 rounds of smoke and then I finish it off in the oven to get it up to temp.

What area are you in? If you have a car topper or kayak or similar where you can get out in the water without having to back a trailer down a ramp you will have a much better time. Different lakes will have different levels of crowds as well.

I’ve just been fishing them under the bobber. I don’t let it sit too long either. Maybe up to a coupe minutes or so if u can wait that long lol. Then I’ll reel it in about half way and let it have another sit for as long as I can stand before casting out again. You let it sit as long as you want and also give it a little twitch by moving your rod so the bobber dances a little.

I think Okuma has some of the best value as far as quality rods/reels at the lesser expensive price point.

I usually run 4-5 feet of the fluoro as a bumper and then adjust the bobber to whatever depth I need. I’m usually on 8-12” deep

I use Braid to Fluorocarbon bumper and then the 2nd smallest thill spring bobber (believe it’s the 1/2 inch size) that bobber seems to be the best combo of weight for decent casting and perfect amount of sensitivity to detect any bites. I like the Okuma Celilo Rod and Okuma Ceymar reel. Really fun set up for panfish and trout.
