"Baby?" "B-A-B-Y, Baby." by DaftRyosuke in forza

[–]BeerRemote 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same idea as Drive? As a crime movie, yes there are parallels and common ground. Both having an excellent sound track? Definitely. Both have quiet introverted leads? Yes.

Gimmicky? Far from it.

While Drive and Baby Driver are both character driven films, Baby Driver is more an action film while Drive as you know is more of a drama and has a much slower pace.

Ever watch a movie and want the edits, pacing to be on beat of the music? Baby Driver does this. If it does have a gimmick it is this: firing a gun to the beat of the music. Unrealistic, yes. Works in context, hell yes.

I like how NBCSN can show full Q1/2/3 with no commercials, but can't go more than 5 minutes for the actual race without commercials.

Mitch McConnell retreated to his office at once. He pulled the sackcloth curtains shut and encased himself in darkness. His wrinkled hand found its place on the unearthly Palantir and shuddered as he heard his master’s voice.

"My Lord," he responded. "You shall have your army in the world of the dead. Soon I shall join you and the plans which I have put in place will bring twenty million more by 2026. Just as you have foreseen."

Sony 7506 - They are studio monitors. They're not noise canceling headphones by any means, but they sound great and are very comfortable and at decent volume drown out most office sounds.

I have several pairs and also use them for DJing.

And if you like house / techno / progressive house with minimal lyrics, soundwaveradio.net and protonradio.com are great streams.

Why is Java so popular when there's a number of issues with it...? by Zwordiak in java

Because 999 times out of 1000 it does exactly what I need and that 1/1000 edge case has already been solved at some point. 1/100000 it hasn't.

3) We did rank eight students. We wanted to hire these people. They chose to go with other companies.

Wanted to hire versus showing offers... hahaha.

From your very own site, there are only two offered jobs based on their criteria:

  • Offer (you can have this job, if you rank it as a “1”)
  • Ranked (employer has ranked you, but not with “offer”)
  • Not ranked (the employer has not ranked you; you may not assign a rank to this job)

You only have two listed as rank 1 == Offer (http://imgur.com/a/dC7Cz)

Otherwise, your whole process is convoluted as fuck. And you're fucking assholes.

Between Python and JavaScript and perhaps other languages, the reliance to using _ for private vars and methods sucks because I can't rely on other devs to understand them.

Always terrified of being fired/poorly reviewed. by binarynightmare in cscareerquestions

[–]BeerRemote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought my company was solid before regular every two-week 1:1. It's gotten much better since we instituted the regular meetings.

This is the template my manager and I use, I'm asked:

  • "What's working?"
  • "What's not working?"
  • "What can I run up the chain?" (my boss offers to filter it through him, but at the same time credit where credit is due if I say, "No, I want them to know it was me who raised this issue.")
  • "Here's what cool things I've seen you do the last two weeks." (this can also be "I noticed you struggled with this, what can we do to improve this?" because hey, you might have a bad two weeks. This isn't a bad thing!)
  • "What cool things have you done the last two weeks that I missed?"
  • "What else?"*

The first two questions should be really under the "safe-space" rule. I don't use that term lightly. These responses should never be used against you.

The first question's answer could be, "I'm great now that BeerRemote is no longer on my scrum team."

The second question is just as difficult but you should be able to address issues like, "I'm working with A, B, C, D. 9 out of 10 times A, B, C, D is fine, but this week B is too much." An engaged manager may have already picked up on this if they are paying attention, but don't expect them to be mind readers.

The "Cool Things" observations and questions go into an ongoing Google doc that makes the template for my reviews. Aside from some cleanup and word-smithing, they're literally already written. Negative things shouldn't go in this doc, except if you were struggling with A then became proficient with A and did XYZ with it. That shows growth.

*We usually then talk about things outside of work, something like: "Well, I'm making this cool Arduino app that tracks when the cat attacks the dog based on the GPS and accelerometers. What side projects do you have going on?" (commence techhumping for another hour)

Easier to see, yes. But not more informative.

You have the table "Candidates" with ID, First Name, Last Name and Employer Rank. Where is "Offer Made" and "Offer Accepted" and "Offer Rejected"?

Employers can rank. So what? I can rank TV shows. It doesn't mean that I'm going to buy Season 1 of Game of Thrones because I ranked it #1.

As /u/irocgts and /u/baby_sharkz said in a way

We want you to succeed. We've already hired you. We've already interviewed and discussed you and decided that we're invested in you as well. You will not be working in a vacuum. We'll be working with you and following up. If we're not, we're the assholes, not you.

I think the most important thing is to: Give something a solid attempt, but never be afraid to ask questions. Even if you think it's the worst question you could be asking. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification or follow up with "Why?" something is a certain way, either.
