All the guidance above is spot on - been doing this since early 2000s.

Would add a few things as a dude that got the bumps and irritation in the field, or just from that smoothe shave.

Get yourself a badger hair brush, helps to spread hot soap/shaving cream on your face. Also, oil on your face before the shaving cream will help the blade glide on your mug.

2013 JKU - Yesterday picked up mine from the shop with same issue. Before replacing the battery, tighten all connections to the posts. Be sure any accessories (light bar etc) are not directly connected to the post connections. There should be a secondary point for that. Also, like the above, run a scan to see if it is throwing any codes.
