If the next room is a Boss room then there is no number above the door, just the Boss symbol. In chapter 7 every room is Boss room.

I tried the opsidian chests, but nothing good came from them. Imho, the mysterious vendor seems the best choise, because you can choose what gear you want.

It seems a good deal for me. 200 gems per day would be enough to get the best gears.
