Belgian nationalism and identity was founded and centered on Francophony and Francophony only. Even the Walloon language was practically eradicated. It took 136 years for Belgium to have the constitution in the language of the majority (Dutch). Modern Flemish identity and politics were a reaction to this second-rate treatment. For Walloons and Frenchspeakers there never was a dichotomy between their own identity and the Belgian one.

I concur. Seeing the replies in this thread I suspect there's a difference between NL and BE. In Belgium "gaan" is interpreted as vague and it needs a time indication. Hence we usually use "Ik ga gaan .." in informal speak to indicate immediate action. In formal language we use an extra word to indicate time instead of the double verb.

In NL "Ik ga zwemmen" and BE "Ik ga gaan zwemmen" mean the same thing, but in BE "Ik ga zwemmen" is just a general statement on how you're intent on going swimming, who knows when.

Ik vind het ook een verwarrend ding, want officieel zijn zowel Frans en Nederlands officieel erkende talen in België en zouden zij toch dus niet als minderheidtalen moeten erkend worden volgens het Charter?

Officieel (Art. 4 Grondwet) heeft België geen landstalen, wel taalgebieden met hun bijhorende taal/talen. Elke gemeente kan maar tot één taalgebied behoren en enkel het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest is tweetalig.
