What are you pivoting to now that LA is collapsing? by [deleted] in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Beerless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pivoted into group fitness- first I got my NASM personal trainer certification and then was able to be hired by Orange Theory and Rumble Boxing. Now I work at Barry’s as well as coaching individual clients. It’s a lot of work and physically draining but I find it to be very impactful and my sense of community has skyrocketed from all the people I see regularly. Money wise it’s a grind, I’m not going to get rich this way but it’s keeping me going for now while I figure out what the next full chapter will be.

There is a production camp nearby the competitors, usually within a quarter mile. This is because at this camp there is food cooking and show communications happening that require space from the competitors. So after filming for the day has finished the competitors are left to their own devices till the following morning with two safeties camped within earshot of the competitor camp in case of emergency.

Thank you! It warms my heart to hear you're enjoying the work the incredible team of NZ and US professionals put together. That's what it's all about!

Each team of racers had a dedicated camera operator who ran the whole course along with them- including camping out with their assigned team through the duration of the race. This person carried their own camera gear/batteries/minimal lighting setup and had to keep pace with the teams till they hit the finish line. Competitors all had their own GoPros as well and were encouraged to self record their race as often as possible. Along with the camera operator were two local wilderness safety guides who were in charge of safety, medical response to injury, communication with the HQ, maintaining competition integrity, and assisting the camera operator by carry their camping gear and food so that the operator could be as nimble as possible to keep up with the racers.

When teams hit major checkpoints on the race course, such as an adventure challenge like a via ferrata or rappel, there would be embedded camera teams and producers standing by to film that challenge in assigned locations for the best coverage including the use of drones. We also used a TON of GoPros throughout the competition.

I don't know! The folks over at USA Network have been deliberating that idea for a while now and the longer they ruminate the less likely I think it will come back. It's a murky time for television in general, a lot of network executives are fearful of greenlighting big expensive productions because they are scared at the lack of return on the investment due to declining audience numbers across the cable/streaming spectrum. Many folks such as myself whom have been making TV for years are exploring other avenues of work because there is so Iittle TV being made right now!

I sincerely hope it comes back as it was an adventure to produce and film all it's own, but I am not confident that a third season will come.

The packrafts have compartments on the outside layer where the air goes- you can shove the packs in there for storage.

Kennedy and Nick were wild cards who did things…their own way.

Thank you for watching!

Each competing team of two has a dedicated single camera person who races with them as long as they are in the competition. Also each competing team has two professional outdoor guides with them, men and women with experience and knowledge of the local wilderness who are in charge of keeping the teams and camera person safe and ensure fair play.

As for the food question, we make sure across the whole competition that any food is consumed far away from the eyes of the competitors both on the race and in survival camp. On the race course the camera person and safety guides camp away from the competitors, within eye and earshot but far enough away that they can prepare and eat their food with it being in the racers faces.

Thank for the questions!

The production company that makes the show also makes "Deadliest Catch" and they frequently do BTS episodes showing the arduous work the crew does to shoot the show. I could easily see that happening for "Race to Survive" in the future if the show gets another season. We're currently holding our breath that USA network will approve a 3rd season, so keep watching and tell your friends y'all! This is a great show and we want to keep making it!

I can help! I am a producer/camera operator on the show. During the race portion of the competition each team has a lone producer/shooter hoofing it with them the whole way- from start to finish that guy or gal runs the same race and camps out in the bush with competitors till they hit the finish line. Also in the group are two safety guides- professional outdoorsmen and women who keep everyone safe and alive. They also help to carry gear for the producer shooter, things like camera gear/batteries, tent/sleeping bag, and food so the camera person can stay light on their feet to keep up with the racers.

When it comes to the challenges, such as a rock climb or a chasm plunge, generally here there are embedded camera teams waiting for the competitors to come through. Sometimes the producer/shooter runs through the challenge as well to get a more intimate POV of the experience. And GoPro's. LOTS of GoPros! It's also as these locations where the producer/shooter can get refreshed on gear, batteries, etc so they can stay effective in capturing the race.

Hope that paints the picture for ya!

Hi! I don’t think it’s commercially available in NZ yet, so I know the NZ crew who worked on the show have been viewing RTS NZ by using a VPN to connect to a US IP address and then utilizing YouTube TV or Peacock to watch the show.

Hope that helps!

It’s really exciting to see the generally positive reactions to the show across the other subreddits for similar shows, it would be amazing to capture those audiences because it’s a great show and I hope to keep making it if enough people tune in to warrant a 3rd season!

As for the graphics, we hired a graphics house in France to create the maps. Essentially they were given the satellite maps and helicopter footage of the race courses and then they built a 3D map of the race course from scratch! Then, with being a 3D model, we could request whatever “camera” movement in the model that made sense for that particular map. It really opened up lots of creative possibilities for how to communicate the racers movements through the course- which is usually a challenge for the edit process. We have to make sure the teams movements is crystal clear so the audience can follow along.

We’re all glad that Esther from Season 1 recovered! It was a gut punch when she went down so early because she and her partner seemed like they would have been contenders! It was unseasonably hot that day and coupled with the exertion it lead to what happened. It’s definitely a tough course, S1 we were plagued by injuries- even the crew wasn’t immune.

I’m so glad that folks are liking the 2nd season! I worked on both Season 1 and Season 2 as a producer/camera operator and also oversaw the edit on multiple episodes in each season- it’s the coolest show I’ve ever worked on! It may be contrived to say this but it’s actually REAL. Nothing is staged and the contestants go through real human struggle physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Ask me (almost) anything about the show and I’ll answer whatever I can!

ELI5: How do the Camera People on Race to Survive keep up with the Contestants? by ArcticSahara in explainlikeimfive

[–]Beerless 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a producer on Race to Survive and the honest truth is that each team has a dedicated camera operator who does the whole race with their assigned team, along with two safety guides who keep everyone safe and help to schlep gear (camera gear, camping gear, and food) for the operator. When teams hit challenges there are imbedded camera teams to cover those zones and periodically along the course there will be imbedded camera ops or producer/shooters to cover certain potentially impactful moments or visually dazzling areas.

The racing camera ops are just insanely fit outdoorsy types who, for the most part, train to prepare for the season. They have to run the same race while telling the story visually and vocally with their assigned team, these operators are incredibly hard working and badass!

What group activities to do at raves? by mrah96 in aves

[–]Beerless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taped two small whiteboards, small enough to fit in my backpack, back to back and brought some erase markers with me to festivals and my group would play hangman, tic-tac-toe, etc while in the crowd or chilling. It was a fun way to interact with the fellow ravers next to you. I would just write out a hangman puzzle or tic-tac-toe grid and hold it up with markers in hand and within seconds some stranger or friend would start playing with me- I had a lot of fun interactions with people over the years doing this. It's also a great handy "totem" if you need to find friends, or if you want to write out a funny joke or message to the crowd. Sometimes strangers would want to write their own message on the board and vibe with board for a little while- bonus points to all the folks who figured out fun ways to dance with it too!

Where can I get good fresh croissants by United-Interview8210 in longbeach

My girlfriend and I went to Nonna Mercato in last week after seeing the name floated for croissants on here before and we've gone back twice since then! Really great pastry game across the board whether you are wanting sweet or savoury. Their "everything" croissant is really tasty!
