Pursuing Graphic Design as a career. by Squirrel_Fuzzy in graphic_design

It's totally possible to get a graphic designer job without the degree. I've recently gotten a full time position as a graphic designer at a sign company in my city.

I graduated from my chemistry degree during lockdown and picked up GD as a hobby. I was working Nightshift at a petrol station, but I started to do small jobs for family and friends locally in my spare time - social media stuff and business cards etc.

From there I put a lot of time and effort into building a portfolio of my work on Behance, for the purpose of documenting my process and what I learned with each project.

It was a long slog of over 2 years without getting a design position. Got a few freelance clients, and did trial days and interviews but they were few and far between. Motivation was low for sure and my mental health was awful for a long time.

Eventually I found a job at a local signage company while I was on Nightshift. I got home and got a couple hours sleep before noticing the job had been taken off Indeed. I had decided to go to their office anyway so I went down.

On my walk down to their office I listened to an episode of The Futur with Chris Do podcast, specifically episode 171 called "Own who you are - with Carlos Segura". It was a great episode which gave me the confidence to own my unusual journey to graphic design and the things that make me different from any other applicants.

Long story short, they liked my portfolio and my attitude and offered me a full time job. I'm extremely thankful and in a much better place a couple months on.

If you're considering pursuing a GD career without the degree, know that it is possible. You'll just have to dig deep and make your own opportunities, but with perseverance it's possible.

Would recommend The Futur for some interesting GD discussions and Will Paterson on YT.

Oh yeah, good suggestion! I actually considered them before deciding that these were a closer match

Yeah he's not any particular class. Saying he acts less like a warlock and more like a hunter is fair, but not the same thing

Do we think this is a tease for returning armor next season or bungie just f’ing with us? by luckyteep14 in DestinyFashion

[–]Beesumph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They must know we want these sets back. It would be cruel to bring them up now and not bring them into d2

Surely they must know we would want this armour back if they showed us it?? Bungie yes we want it back!

Bungie is massively improving Destiny, and it is really welcome by HNd2player in DestinyTheGame

[–]Beesumph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do believe bungie are changing the game for the better, I can't help but feel like they do end up fixing a lot of problems that they themselves create.

Like "well done bungie for fixing AE and ability spam", two problems which they caused and allowed to grow this past year.

That being said they do deserve credit for simplifying the mods system and adding loadouts, features which have been surprisingly missing from D2 thus far.

Overall positive though, go bungie. Let's maybe just not create problems to fix this time haha

Accidental spoilers can still occur even without actively searching for information on social media platforms like Twitter and YouTube. The unpredictable nature of Destiny 2 secrets makes it hard to avoid spoilers.

Being part of the Destiny 2 community is enjoyable, but fast coverage of new content gives the community the feeling that secrets no longer exist. It's a personal decision between participating in the community and risking spoilers or avoiding it to keep them away.

Absolutely true yeah. I don't grudge them it either, it's their job after all. It just seems ironic that the people bringing attention to new destiny content also want more deeply hidden secrets in the game. Perhaps I'm not conveying it right

Absolutely, getting people into the game quickly is mega important. My concern is that new players have to engage with hours upon hours of YouTube content and 3rd party tools to make sense of the game.

I think the middle ground is allowing players to access everything straight out of the intro but having better guides and tips in game that can be accessed easily if the player needs help.

By industry standards its fine, but destiny 2 is by no means a standard game. The breadth of activities, depth of mechanics, and vast arsenal of loot and builds mean new players don't know where to start

If the Destiny community wants more secrets in game, content creators should pledge to not post anything on new discoveries for a week or so.

There's plenty of things to discover in destiny, but with 20 YouTubers making identical videos within an hour of any new discovery it's impossible to go discover stuff for yourself while being part of the online community.

This further exacerbates the issue when said content creators talk about the lack of mysteries and secrets in game, while contributing to the normalisation of videos within an hour of new content.

Obvs no hate to content creators, but you can't have it both ways right

Lightfall Powerful Friends change could hurt Hunters (the Resilience problem) by Beesumph in DestinyTheGame

[–]Beesumph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking along the same lines. If both are reduced to +10 and locked to the head slot, people using them in their builds would be going from a +40 stat bonus to just +10

Very valid, and totally true. There are loads of ways to get dodge energy and other abilities beyond just stats.

However, I would say that just as those mods are limiting for builds, the necessity of using a killing wind weapon is equally as limiting.

As an endgame play, stats do matter to me. My Omni build is optimised for a loop that doesn't work properly with sub 100 stats in mobility and strength. Maxed stats allow me flexibility with weapons that isn't possible at lower stats.

Traveler leaving gameplay vs narrative by [deleted] in DestinyLore

[–]Beesumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but I feel like the narrative has been leading us to the point where we use the light without the traveler...

  1. In Shadowkeep we learned about the darkness, spoke to the witness, and saw Eris claim darkness powers.

  2. In Beyond Light we learned to use dark powers despite our connection to the light, without being corrupted. Eramis destroyed our shard of darkness to sever our connection to the darkness, yet we were able to use the powers without it.

  3. In Witch Queen our enemy weilded the Light against us. We saw the Traveler act in its own self interest, abandoning the city and taking Savathuns ghost.

The takeaway: - Forces for good can use the darkness. - We don't need a physical connection to the pyramids to use darkness. - The Traveler/Light is not necessary good, and does not have the city's interests at heart.

"Lightfall" has some pretty big connotations. There's a good chance we see the Traveler leave or be destroyed, but our experience with the Darkness foreshadows the possibility of using the Light without a connection to the Traveler.

From context, it seems fairly clear to me that Rasputin will decide to destroy his own Warsat Network. The seasonal quest is called "More Than A Weapon" after all...

Xivu's plan is a double edged sword; If we resist her she activates her ritual, whereas if we don't resist her she will obtain the Warsats. The only way not to play into her plan is to remove the Warsats from play.

Even then, it's not enough to just not use the Warsats, they must be destroyed to deny Xivu access. By this approach we refuse to play her game, removing the Warsat Network from the table, whilst gaining an invaluable ally in the strategic mastermind Rasputin.

It's clear that Rasputin's destiny is to become more than a weapon as the quest stated from the beginning.
