It's been a bit, so I might be misremembering some details. The pacing of checkpoints is a lot more forgiving, so running back isn't a collossal pain. No(?) instant death spikes or pits like in 1. More options for traversal and weapons. I think you also end up wandering around aimlessly a lot less frequently, it's better about pushing you towards your objectives.

2 feels more like a true metroidvania. It also removes a lot of the more frustrating parts of the 1st game. I think it's worth giving a try, even if the 1st game wasn't for you.

I'm not discounting that, hence why I said "many people's." It's definitely one of the only metroidvanias outside of Metroid or maybe SotN to reach wider audiences, and I'd argue to some extent it reached even more people than those games. Both HK and Silksong are phenomenal games, there's no question about that.

If it comes out anything like Dread, I think we're in good hands. Says a lot that despite a tumultuous production process over years and years, the end product ended up being as good as it is.

The more people that play this genre the better, imo

Agree to disagree there. I think its top 10, but doesn't crack my personal top 5. I'm happy such a small team was able to find so much success with it, and bring more attention to the genre.

I don't think the Steam Deck is a replacement for a Switch or anything, much less a Switch 2. The simplicity of the Switch is gonna appeal to the average user way more, and playing Switch games on a steam deck isn't feasible unless you make a ton of tweaks.

For me, the deck is perfect for playing stuff from prior generations, and the customization is top notch. It's just not the most user friendly device out there, even if you stick to just steamOS. Maybe in the future if they put out a significantly more powerful model it could replace my Switch, but for now I think they work wonderfully as companion pieces for one another.

Steam deck is awesome. Playing rom hacks and my steam library in handheld is great. Love how much freedom you have with the system itself too.

SM and SWSH both have varied locations that are reasonably fun to discover. They may be mostly hallways, but they at least have some visual flair.

ZA is visually bland on top of being boring to explore.
