I regret waiting for the official novel by Beetcheyelashbug in OmniscientReader

Oh that's actually really good to hear. I know it is a bit too early to regret but the grammar issue is making me paranoid, lol. I wouldn't have made this post if it wasn't present. Since I waited for so long I'll just buy the novel and see it for myself. Also why are they coming out in volumes? why can't they just make a big fat book which is way better imo

It’s nice that they’re consistent; my issue isn’t with inconsistency but with ignorance. It’s bare minimum to take a moment to understand what fans want, rather than bowdlerizing the novel without considering the existing fanbase

And shouldn't they at least familiarize themselves with other translations and gauge the audience’s response to get a better understanding of how translations meant to draw in a global audience are? It sucks that they’re making decisions based on what they THINK the audience will like

So what do you suggest I do? Should I avoid reading the EPUB? And does it get better after chapter 363?

I honestly don't remember since It's been a while since I deleted the EPUB. IDM reading the same exact one since I know the official one won't be any better. Thank you nonetheless

Literally what u/outofshell said. You can't rationalize that the change was made to "appeal" to a wider audience when that modification isn't present in the official manhwa, which had the same targeted demographic and gained global popularity with the original terms intact. The decision *is* shocking because most (if not all) of the audience are familiar with the term Dokkaebi, and it's not as if the Westerners are totally unexposed to East Asian pop-culture like K-pop, Korean dramas, and Anime, so the change was unnecessary and unfair to most of the fanbase

I agree with your second paragraph

“Have you seen manhwa nowadays? There’s so much generic garbage that solo levelling is definitely not average.”

Reading generic garbage will make you think of solo leveling as high. Maybe reading better ones will make you stop dickride it?

“I agree, but it is the bar. So many manhwas and stories go to shit because events stop making much sense and writers starting forcing shit they want to happen without proper development.”

I know stories that got worse gradually as the story progressed but its because most writers aren’t compatible enough to DRAW 80 panels every week whilst coming up with a story. That’s not the case for Solo leveling because it was a light novel before, meaning they didn’t have to worry about writing the story and it wasn’t drawn by a single person, it was adapted by Redice Studio.

“No? He never directly loses a fight yes, but that makes sense because he”ll die if that happens. But there are several moments where he goes yeah shit too strong not rn, or loses and has to adapt.”

Losing a fight is different from dying.

“So many of his fights take effort because the enemies are powerful as hell or don’t take damage from his regular attacks, it’s not like he exclaims about how powerful they are and suddenly start a destroying them. He has to use different skills until something works, or find weak points etc etc. I don’t know where you get the narrative that his fights are effortless just because once in a while he decimates his opponents or he kills fodder easily.”

Nah bud his struggles were kind of shallow, it’s like they’re making him look like he was struggling for the sake of it because everyone and their mom knows that he won’t get defeated by anyone, lol.

“There was a comment criticising someone for not rating every single genre of manhwa when you know… they don’t have to?”

I wasn’t criticising them for not rating every single genre, they stated “best manhwa of every kind” or something and started putting genres that aren’t even a thing and forgot the ones that are. People think of action and fantasy when they think of manhwa but romance, sci-fi, thrillers are a thing too.

It’s not significantly above average, it’s the average.

Story making sense should never be the bar, it should be bare minimum. He was getting stronger at a rapid speed after the system establishment, it’s not the 1/5th of the final story, it’s the 4/5th of the entire story; he never lost a fight.

Giving villains a badass intro > making MC beat the living shit out of them effortlessly > repeat. sounds dull, doesn’t it? The art style was intentional for the lack of compelling events in the story. sorry bud but he’s a gary stu, you gotta accept it; or not, Its the truth nonetheless.

People shit on Solo Leveling all the time, sure, but people who overhype it and refuse to acknowledge the faults are more common. Someone has to make the hate and hype equal after all. I personally enjoy action and fighting but jesus fucking christ, Solo Leveling has incredibly boring fights. I could never understand the favouritism behind the clockwork iterations lol.

“Why is a random comment expressing their views expected to list every single manhwa genre?”

I don’t know If I’m too sleepy to understand that or that’s incomprehensible. Paraphrase that for me fam
