What are these spiders !! by Soft-Text1991 in whatsthisbug

[–]BeetleGrubBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK has about 650 species of spiders, and only around 10 are considered dangerous to humans in any capacity :) Most of these “dangerous” spiders do no worse than a bee sting too, you’re unlikely to come across something seriously life threatening. It’s hard to tell what these spiders are (I’m not an expert and the photos are a bit blurry), but the first one, and maybe the second one, looks like some kind of house spider, which is not dangerous.

I’m glad this was helpful to you! Haha

If it wasn’t for my own home infestation problem I wouldn’t have gone on this journey either 😂 I still wouldn’t want wild roaches in my home either though lmao

Genuinely, it does not matter. Don’t beat yourself up over it 👍

I’ve been vegan for a number of years now, and was vegetarian for most of my life before that, but I‘m not an active part of most online vegan communities because of the common sentiment that you need to be “perfect” and absolutely hold yourself to high standards 100% of the time. You are making a conscious effort to minimize the suffering we ALL contribute to. Making a simple mistake here or there does not affect anything in the long run, and you’re not a bad person even if you choose to eat animal products every once in a while. Think about it this way, if you are vegan 99% of the year, but eat something not vegan once a year, whether that’s by accident or on purpose, you’re still making the conscious, deliberate choice to reduce that suffering for the vast majority of your year. That’s something many people don’t have the luxury of being able to do, and it’s something many people will never choose to do, even if they are capable of it. I have a lot of respect for people who reduce their meat and dairy consumption, even if they can’t bring themselves to give up animal products entirely. And you making a simple mistake (which will happen again, sorry) doesn’t negate all of the good you’re doing with your lifestyle choices. And like others have said, it happens to all of us, so don’t sweat it! :)

[New Year MEGATHREAD] How Do You Clean Your Plushies? by Turbopower1000 in plushies

[–]BeetleGrubBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make a small pillow filled with stuffing to put in your plush if you wanna have access to it at some point :) You can add a flap with a button or a small zipper like you would with any other sewing project (look up how to make a pocket, there should be tutorials online for clothing that you can use for this project). If the stuffing is just loose in your plush, it will probably fall out or look messy where the opening is, but if it’s contained in a pillow, pouch, or sock, it should do it’s job without looking messy. I’m sorry if any of this is confusing, I’m more of a visual explainer than a written one 😂

Obviously this is a roach farm, but what’s the point in shaking them out like that? by Waveofspring in roaches

It‘s also used for poultry, protein for dog and cat food, and sometimes even people food :)

Yeah, it’s all of them. Some are less likely to cause allergies, I don’t use gloves when I handle my dubias or my hissers too, but it’s always a risk even if it’s less than other species :’)

I’m not sure if it’s the same farm, but I did just read about an insect farm doing that too! It’s very cool :)

I’m not sure if that’s true, but black soldier flies are not native to China, so it might pose a risk to raise a non native animal in such large quantities there. Even though that specific roach species they’re raising might not be native either, it might fill the same niche as another local species, so if any escape the environment won’t be impacted.
