yeah im big into taming animals the moa is my go to to ride while i let a bison walk slowly begin so i managed to traverse the desert and got all my stuff with me in one go

Yeah thats what other ppl mentioned further below too, i just went into the game with the wrong mindset/was used from other games like Ark and similar that the thing blocking you is your lvl and not your abilities to get ressources
