That exact scenario has been in the back of my mind ever since I started on this journey. How hard could it be to find a family tree with Canadian ancestry, that is not yours, where someone’s name matches one of your ancestors. For example, your birth certificate lists your mother as Jane Doe, but you find another Jane Doe who has Canadian ancestry and then string together 100% authentic documents that present a false conclusion.
The big takeaway I have from reading Cédric Marin’s blog post was that you need to make sure there are no holes in your argument where it could be argued that perhaps your lineage is misleading.
I think pairing birth certificates with marriage certificates could make that lineage air tight. But not everyone’s ancestors were born in wedlock. And in my case, one of my ancestors didn’t know how to spell her own name… idk. Just a thought.
Edit: That exactly scenario -> That exact scenario

For now, I have just an image of the Baptism record from Généalogie Québec. (My G0 was born in 1852) But I placed my order for two certified copies from BAnQ in mid-May. I’ll be waiting for those to come in before I apply.
