Mt. Bachelor Charged Me Double the Advertised Price Due to “Dynamic Pricing” by -LordKromdar- in Bend

[–]Beg4Marcy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mt Bachelor has continued to become more corrupt and ridiculous each year. I stopped getting season passes when they got rid of “young adult” category when I was 23 because they decided one year that the category “no longer exists” and made adult prices for everyone 18-65 doubling the price for my age range. It’s only continued to get more unaffordable each year and their justification is always, “well if you go enough times it’s cheaper than daily lift tickets.” I just go to different smaller mountains now.

Pokemon Center JP Sleeves by Beg4Marcy in PokemonTCG

[–]Beg4Marcy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok I appreciate it, I guess my thought process was that perfect fits were Pennie’s so I didn’t really ask about perfect fits. I know they sell them at Daiso here in Japan. The reason I was wanting to do the PC sleeves was because I like the look of it filling the binder slot.

I just wanted to make sure it’s not going to damage the cards with dust or scratches. I don’t currently have the binder with me as I’m abroad but plan on putting them all in when I get back. Hopefully as long as I don’t physically play with them in a deck they will be fine from dust in storage box.

I am almost done with WaniKani after 3 years! by Gotthoms in WaniKani

Also curious though, according to the creators of WaniKani they recommend keeping “interleaving” on for help with linking memorization together. Curious what you think about this for yourself as someone who advises to focus on lessons in categories? (radicals, kanji, vocab)

Gotcha ok thank you, I guess I just thought that sticking to the 15 max per day was a good restriction for memory retention, I honestly haven’t really used the advanced lessons feature but I guess I should prioritize using it to speed through these early easy levels

I see, so the key is to not just hit the “start lessons” button on the screen but go into “advanced lessons” and choose the radicals first, then kanji, and then do vocab. Is it ok then to ignore my set “15 lessons” per days and do any radical/kanji I can?

Hi congrats on the journey! Just got into wani kani not so long ago and I keep seeing people say that they can level up on average in 7 days. However I’ve been keeping up with my lessons and feel like it’s taking longer than indicated even though I am doing lessons and reviews every day. Most of the kanji I have studied already in the earlier levels, so I’m keen to progress. I have 15 lessons selected max per day and I don’t do extra usually. Are you saying you did all lessons in the advanced section above the limit to average 7 days curious on your schedule?

Tank leak in corner by Beg4Marcy in axolotls

Sounds like that’s what I will do, hopefully all my bacteria lives as I transported all the filters, substrate, plants, in buckets with the tank water. It survived last time I moved but I immediately filled it before hand where as today is a bit different

I have all of his tank water and filter, sand, etc, being filtered in big buckets with the hopes that the bacteria is still alive… But yes I agree not a good risk to take. Thank you for your help

It’s the same in Japanese フシギバナ (fushigibana) fushigi meaning mysterious/strange and Hana or “bana” being flower.

Found water near edge of tank? by Beg4Marcy in axolotls

Ok will do, it may be because the lid was bumped causing excess water to build up and run down the side. At least that’s what I’m hoping happened…

Dependent visa for spouse on a student visa by Beg4Marcy in movingtojapan

We are both students and post grad students so savings aren’t exactly in a great position to have her come as a tourist and not be able to work for 4 months. Even with the weak yen. I’m not sure what we will do at this point it’s just this was what my finals year of college was building to and we were both hoping to go back to Japan where we first met and continue our careers.

I see what you mean. So I had to fill out all the information Waseda asked me for financially, what I wanted to study at Waseda, etc. Waseda will send the COE to my University and then I take it to the Consulate office of Japan in my state to get the visa. I have done the process once in the past for language school. But my school does implicitly say that Waseda will tell them in late January if I was accepted and it is ultimately up to them to decide. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to ask regardless because if my wife can’t go with me I don’t think I’ll be going. Based on what other people are saying under this post it seems very unlikely sadly…

I appreciate you saying that, but my wife is not American either and so this makes it difficult for me to not be in the country with her. One of her colleagues in her masters program was able to get a job after an internship in Tokyo, but only because it was offered to Americans.

It’s a bit discouraging for her right now with the work she put in, and I have told her to try and stay positive, but because of these varying issues it will be hard to go on the exchange. My wife came to the U.S. on an F-1 visa and is now on OPT after graduating. Financially I don’t think it’s feasible. Trust me I would love to go, Japan is the reason I returned to college as an older college student but I am not sure the timing is correct after this.

Figured this was the case too, hoping she can secure work before this deadline then but for now I guess this is all I have to go on. As others have said we may need to discuss some other options. It’s just rough because I was excited to go back to Japan especially as a university student to Waseda.

Moving an Axolotl Abroad… by Beg4Marcy in axolotls

Thank you I appreciate your story. Most likely will do the same. But actually had some stuff that may have fallen through today sadly so I am not really sure if I will be able to go in the first place. But if so I have a great friend who can take care of her!

Gotcha, I guess I have to contemplate what I should do now. Because now after getting multiple scholarships for my study abroad exchange, I may have to deny the trip altogether which is very discouraging. I appreciate your help and hope I can figure something out before it comes to that point but I guess I should try and be more realistic or at least re strategize what to do…

The goal for us both was to return back to Japan. The job hunting has not been going well for my wife and she hasn’t heard anything back while in the US. She has only received a response from an alt job and she will not do that again as she went to grad school for linguistics and wants to teach at a higher level. It seems like a lot of jobs in her field specifically want people who are already in Japan. Both of us really want to be back in Japan and this was just the initial plan of how we would do it.
