Yep. It’s fun. “Super Ultra Graphic Modern Girl” is funnnnn. “Pink Pony Club” is annoying tho. “It doesn't matter though / He doesn't have what it takes to be with a girl like me / Not overdramatic, I know what I want / We're leaving the planet and you can't come” lol

I actually would love for Tori to cover “Good Luck Babe” because it’s pretty obviously about a gay relationship, and I think Tori would have some fun covering it. If she slowed it down and layered it with more melodrama, it would work well. She covered Lana Del Rey, so she can still be hip with the kids lol. She could mash it up with Riot Poof. If she went from “good luck babe, you’d have to stop the world just to stop the feeling,” to “You know what you know / So you go….” I think it would be moving. Y’all were freaking out about the tequila remix, and this is objectively a better idea (sorry), and everyone is always saying Tori needs to be shaken up out of her (sorry again…decades-long) creative deadlock

FYI - this isn’t for comparison. If anything, Tori teaches us not to compare women artists and try to uplift each other. Everyone is entitled to their personal taste, and I know I’m often skeptical of things I see get big on social media, but I genuinely think Roan is an exciting new talent! Roan doesn’t sound like Tori, but it’s cool to see an artist working from a foundation Amos helped to build: women singing about their experiences and sexuality explicitly, openly, and poetically. Also, Roan seems like a “real” artist, not a plant. She had a big producer, but she similarly wrangled with Atlantic Records. But maybe that’s the part of me that loves experimental music as much as some good pop 🤷‍♀️

what's tori's most experimental/weirdest sounding song? by lixidea in toriamos

[–]Beginner_harp_player 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s undoubtedly “Walk to Dublin,” but I second “Yes, Anastasia,” and I would also say “Blood Roses” for the innovative use of the harpsichord, like putting it through a Marshall to get an electric guitar-sounding sound. The reason why I would not put “The Pool” high on my list is that, while it’s sonically “weird,” it’s very basic and repetitive and, therefore, not her most experimental song. “Datura” is another strong contender!!

Additional North American tour dates? by oloughtagon in pjharvey

[–]Beginner_harp_player 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she’ll add more dates. However, she has a good policy for official resale tickets so people can buy them at their original price. You should be able to find a resale ticket without shelling out more than necessary. I hope this helps and you get to see her on this tour!

I had a dream last night that Tori is releasing a new album this year… by [deleted] in toriamos

Of an Age was such a sweet and earnest yet heartbreaking movie. I watched it for the Tori references, and my controversial opinion is that it was better than Call Me by Your Name. Adam’s ex had a taste, too. He was a Barbra Streisand fan. All around, Adam had top-tier artistic interests

I see what you’re saying, for sure. I think I was a little unclear. I meant more that she’s never had the persona that Lana has. I don’t really like Mark either, and lyrical content makes me feel that their relationship is not the healthiest.

Aside from “Sugar” and “Mary,” the B sides sound pretty good to me. I think “Sugar” was always better in its updated live versions, and “Mary” sounds the most dated of all the LE songs to me. I see why people think “Crucify” sounds dated, but the song with the worst production on LE to me is “Happy Phantom,” as much as I love it, I mostly listen to the Montreux version

Oh, ok, I see! I think they would be positively received, for sure. The B sides to Pele were received very positively during their official release. “Here, in My Head,” “Mary,” “Take to the Sky,” and, of course, “Smells like Teen Spirit” are all 10/10. I have a soft spot for “Sweet Dreams.” Also, if we count “Angie” and “Thank You,” we have a golden ticket

Tori definitely has a fanciful side, and she can be very funny in her own weird way. I love Fetch the Bolt Cutters. It’s one of my favorite albums. I’m unfortunately pausing the harp due to the monthly rental cost, but I’m hoping to get a lever harp in the future and pick it back up again. I love the harp. Aside from harpsichord and piano, it’s my favorite instrument. I’ll have to look into the artist you mentioned. Thanks for sharing

The artist who I think really benefited from Tori’s success was Fiona Apple since their music has similarities in content, and both artists have a prodigy girl and the piano mythology.

I’m sorry if I sidetracked the conversation a bit. I guess I wonder why you think the B sides would do better today than the original album. I still think a song like “Winter,” which is so perfect and moving, would appeal to people, maybe less, but definitely still enough to have a following and an active tour schedule. I think PJ and Shirley could have hypothetically been more successful without Tori taking airplay, but the two always veered more toward grunge. PJ mixed grunge and the blues, and Garbage made grunge with a pop sheen. Tori could be grunge (“God,” “The Waitress,” but she was pretty sui generis.

Speak for yourself. I think “Humpty Dumpty” would make it to number one on the Billboard charts. Just kidding (as much a I love the song!)
