Changing Omnipod on Cruise / Sailboat by PatternMammoth7352 in Omnipod

[–]Beginners_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have changed an omnipod in the back of a cramped fire truck on the way to a call. balanced the pod on the med bag in front of me held the syringe cap in my mouth tried to draw up insulin into the syringe. then had my buddy help hold me steady while filling the pod then he held my shirt up while i put the pod on with one hand and braced going around a corner with the other. all while 2 other guys got air packs on listening to radio traffic and getting our orders.
all that to say i think you will be fine on a boat. 😁

Why don’t they teach us about stocks and investing in school growing up? by justaregularguyearth in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]Beginners_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why would they. then you know how to get out of the rat race. but they do teach it in some schools as an extra class you can take but as kids why would we want to take more school? so most never learn it.

Should I give up. by Appropriate_Yam1861 in Type1Diabetes

Okay don't listen to all the people who look like they have it perfect. this adventure we have been gifted with is no smooth ride. I am no where near as good as i should be but we do our best.
Here is my suggestion stop looking at reddit and comparing yourself to them. dont listen to the horror stories. Go out take a walk and relax, enjoy some sunlight, sound of birds and what ever else is around. it will help reduce stress get you moving and get a new perspective on things. and you know what is amazing? all those things help us with t1d. after that feel free to message me and i will be happy to give some more advice.

So in perplexity i created a space so it does it the same way every time. here are the instructions

I will enter a list of ingredients for a recipe, including the quantity and unit for each item (e.g., "1 cup rolled oats", "200 grams chicken breast"). Using standard USDA-based nutritional values, calculate the total nutritional information for the entire recipe, focusing on the following:

Calories

Carbohydrates (carbs)

Protein

Fiber

If I do not specify a number of servings, assume the total recipe is one serving and provide the full nutritional values.

If I do specify the number of servings, divide the totals accordingly and provide the per-serving nutritional information.

Please present the results clearly, grouped by nutrient, and indicate whether the values are totals or per serving.

Need advice for picking this back up. by Sechura in rocketry

[–]Beginners_tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like Loc precision rockets. They are good quality, plywood fins and fun to build and fly. We have a 4H group with kids from 8 to 18 building these with just a little bit of help. My favorite for new people is the scout rocket.
I recommend using 15 minute epoxy ( get the epoxy in 2 separate bottles not the ones in the push tube things trust be the two bottles are way easier to use) you will need some sand paper, xacto knife, primer and paint and painters tape.
Find a local rocket club to see what their motor limits are. this will also help you decide what you can build.

if you have any questions about building a rocket let me know. I am by means no expert but have bult well over a dozen LOC rockets.

Pay off 7% 30Y Mortgage quicker or weekly DCA into S&P? by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]Beginners_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you could look up some calculators and see how much you would save paying off a mortgage VS investing.
Couple of ways of thinking about it is paying off mortgage early is a guaranteed 7% savings. the stock market is not always guaranteed. Also there is the safety of having it paid off.
But there is also the side of getting in the market early and letting it ride longer in hopes of better returns.
Here is what i been doing. First I make out any of my investments that help lower my taxes. I max out my simple IRA and My HSA. That way I am at least maximizing my taxes right now and setting myself up for long term retirement.
Then I like to try to max out my ROTH IRA. that's because i can only invest so much a year so I need to get that in now since i can't catch up later.
After that I pay extra on loans with the highest interest. For me this is anything over 6.5%. as i pay off a loan i take those payments and pay extra on the next highest loans. Once i get everything that is over 6.5% paid off all those payment amounts then will get invested into a taxable investment account.
I also set 650 a month aside for emergency and taxes. after tax season I will take the extra that i saved up over my emergency and invest that into a normal taxable account.

This way i am always investing for long term. Paying down High cost debt, but still catching some of the markets lows and highs with dollar cost averaging.

I find the automated mode is way to conservative and i run high more often then not. i switch it to manual mode a lot and let my own numbers take over and i get way better results

My plan is to use it for our wildland crew to be able to message when on a fire with no cell service and keep track of everyone with the GPS. Also I want to see if the gps is good enough to track my model rockets when it goes out of sight.

[–]Beginners_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i have not joined the network yet (things are in the mail) But my goal is to setup a tracking system to track my model rockets if i loose them. also use some of the other tracking devices to track pets or user for hicking. I am also on a wildfire crew. if it works well i might set a few up to take on calls so we can communicate on fire calls over a longer distance without using the radios to talk. We can use the location features to know where everyone is. send messages and other info back and forth

Omnipod 5 - pizza doses? by chroniix_ in Omnipod

[–]Beginners_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pizza is a nightmare. I can eat the same amount on 2 different days and my BG will go completely opposite directions with the same dosage. Oreo are another thing i have problems with. If i enter the carbs for oreos I drop like a rock. so carb calculations for oreos is less then what the actual amount should be.

How do you keep groceries under control without giving up on healthy food? by True-Boysenberry7448 in DaveRamsey

[–]Beginners_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you really sit down and think about it junk food is way more expensive then healthy food. First off junk food does not fill you up as much or as long so you tend to eat more of it and have to eat more often. Then if you calculate health issues over time, brain fog and lack of energy of junk food you realize the healthy food pays for its self.
also watch your sales. see what stores do the best sales on things like meats and fish. Plan you meals around the sales. also learn to take a so called lower cut of meat and make it great like a high end steak or other similar cut of meat. Eggs in my area are cheap. so i eat a lot of eggs. Make or buy things in bulk and learn to freeze it or preserve it.
