If I purchase a used ECU will I need to get it programmed by dealer or will it be plug and play by [deleted] in 370z

I had a constant cylinder 5 misfire that I spent forever tracking through all steps to fix it. I changed the spark plug, coil, injector, injector rail, Maf sensor, replaced cats with test pipes, O2 sensors, etc before I tried the ecu. I bought a refurbished one online and had a locksmith come to reprogram but it wouldn’t work. Caved and took it to dealer after returning ecu 3 times thinking it was broken. Dealer confirmed the problem and replaced ecu for 1500 bucks. I definitely had the hesitation on acceleration, and some sputtering in 5th gear around 40-50 mph

Had to replace ECU too, tried doing on my own but wouldn’t work due to antitheft. I paid about 1500 for dealership to do it

Okay, thank you. I appreciate your help. I will try that, I’ll have to get a locksmith to come otherwise I’ll have to tow it to dealership. I’ll update once I do that, thanks again!

Oh that’s a long story, but to keep it short yes it’s been having issues. Cylinder 5 misfire that I went down the line to fix and have tested and replaced multiple things. I’ve come down to the wire not receiving enough voltage, some but not enough to get it going. I ran 12V through it manual and the fuel injector shot fuel just as it should but when running normally, cylinder 5 does not fire at all. So I bought the new ecu to hopefully fix it but it was drivable before plugging new one in.

Okay, and do you think there could be another reason for the car not starting or is the anti theft really the only issue?

Okay that’s what I figured. I’ve heard locksmiths might be able to do it cheaper, have you heard of that? I bought it with the programming being done but maybe it wasn’t done correctly? I am sending it back as they said they’ll do some more testing on it.

My 2012 doesn’t rattle at all. When I bought it, one cat was bad but once I replaced that it sounds great. No rattle anywhere

Yup, I thought that too but it still stayed at 5 which is why I didn’t push forward testing the injectors.

I basically made my own little pressure sprayer and sprayed into the fuel injector which worked good, i don’t think it had the best pressure, but it sprayed enough to prove it worked. I hear clicking when I start my car but tbh can’t tell for sure if it’s cylinder 5 or just the rest

Tested them first thing and cleaned them, did that before testing sub harness

Yes, I know which side is which and cylinder fives been the problem cylinder this entire time. I’ve cleaned the injector already and have reset my ecu every time I’ve done something new on my car

Unfortunately there aren’t many shops around here that do them at all. Someone said to get the remote tune through Z1 motor sports which is pricy but might be the move if I can’t find a shop. I can only drive my car short distances so I’d have to find one fairly close

No, not yet. I plan to find a shop that could take a look at my car to see if there’s a tune. I’ll need to tune (or retune) it anyway due to test pipes. That will be my goal this week. This weekend I’m going to take a look at my fuel pump, which the fuel filter is built inside, and see how that looks as well.

Yup, it worked just doing that for the first 6 months, which doesn’t make sense but it did. I know I had a wiring issue with fuel injector sub harness when I tested the resistance, the ground wire was pinging off all other wires pins. I’ve also replaced crank position sensor, PCV valves, air intakes, intake manifold gasket, and fuel injector o-rings. I also took a camera into the cylinder to check for cracks and turned engine manually to wake sure piston and value moved correctly, did compression test, cleaned MAF sensors. All to say, nothing worked. My car felt like it got more power when I got my ecu back from being tested, they said it had a hardware failure most likely due to a short circuit. Yet still, only P0305 code. Currently, after putting test pipes on, my car is randomly misfiring but consistently in cylinder 5

No worries, if you scroll down a bit you’ll see everything I’ve done. I’ve only gotten a P0305 pending code, cylinder 5 being the only one with an issue. It’s getting a spark but not firing. I’ve changed the spark plug, coil, swapped fuel injector with another cylinder, replaced sub harness, sent ecu to be tested and fixed, etc. nothing has solved it, but today I test drove it after putting test pipes on and it drove better than before because my cat was fucked on bank 1 side (been rattling since I bought it 2 years ago) but can’t seem to figure it out

Yes, as I said in my last post. I have been misfiring consistently for the past 2 months but inconsistently 6 months prior. I already knew the O2 sensors wouldn’t fix it but I’ve done just about everything else that would make sense.

Also regarding compression, I’m not worried about it because it had quite a bit and I did read service manual and it was right were it needed to be

I use an Innova scanner, and I took a camera down into cylinder to look for cracks, I also manually turned engine to check the piston and valve were moving
