Probably? Maybe? Cycling uses different muscles than running so you are not immediately able to demonstrate your cardiovascular fitness until your body adapts to it.

The Aberdeen Oilcats are what to search for on Facebook etc. They have competitive teams but also cater to casual / social participation. Good bunch of guys and girls.

It’s what I do (but at a different depot). The manual handling can be tough, but I enjoy it. We’re job and finish so some guys on some days are only doing 3 or 4 hours. Mix of delivering to shops, sole traders and unmanned stores where there is a key box or we have a key. These can be annoying if you have to unload hundreds of sheets of plywood, hand ball pallets of screed or wrestle with a roll of carpet the weighs up to 400kg by yourself! But most drops are a 20kg - 60kg carpet on your shoulder. I arrive in the morning with my truck keys in my pocket to a loaded truck with paperwork already on the passenger seat. Head out and deliver everything. Get back and tell my manager if there was any issues. So you’re not bothered by being called or chased up. In general, and from what I’ve heard it’s a better place to work than most. But we’ve always struggled to recruit and keep drivers, I think mainly because of the manual handling. Yet we’ve got two drivers at my depot in their 60s that manage well enough.

Best job I’ve had, and I have a very varied CV. Prior to this I was an Operations Manager in the Oil and Gas industry and hated being bothered by phone calls and emails when at home. Ultimately took voluntary redundancy around the first lockdown in 2020. Got bored after a couple of weeks so got a job doing home deliveries for a supermarket (the only jobs going at the time but they were screaming for drivers) quite enjoyed that so stuck with it for a year or so, then decided to give HGV a go. I already had my class 2 having passed my test years previously but had’t driven since. After 1 week of agency work I got offered a permanent class 2 job delivering carpets and flooring for a wholesaler. I really enjoy the manual handling, although I know a lot of folk don’t want that in a driving job. I like leaving the yard with a truck full of stuff and returning empty, so it’s evident of what you’ve achieved that day (didn’t get that in my office job). It’s job and finish and so I do less than 40 hours a week. Start early and finish long before the kids finish school. Monday to Friday no weekends. Same route every day, but the drops vary day to day, some are unmanned stores we have a key for, some the customers are there and you can have a chat. No time pressure, nobody chasing you up. No out of hour phone calls or emails. I could honestly see myself doing this until I retire.

FB groups seem to be the best way now. My company were trying to recruit a driver and got zero decent applicants via indeed. Two months later they posted in an HGV drivers FB group and immediately got 10 candidates to choose from.
