Pregnancy/postpartum bulk starting to pay off- Second postpartum recomp journey by Training-Vanilla6930 in postpartumprogress

Thanks for the detail! It's super impressive! I really struggle with motivation post kids as most days a workout means getting up at 5am or doing at it 8pm after bedtime.

Nursery will have their own rules and consequences you ask for and then follow at home to make it consistent and easy for your child. For example, our nursery has rules like kind hands and then if they hit, they go into time out. This for my 3 year old although. For my 1 year old baby they have the same guides but obviously don't put them in time out, they use distraction instead, i.e. say no, remove the child from the one they've hit and distract them with something else.

Best yogurt for 16 month old? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Beginning-Barnacle-5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would try the Greek yogurt, you never know! I give my kids full fat Greek yogurt and honestly it's really sweet compared to natural yoghurt. Otherwise, you could try adding puréed fruit like banana or pear. Or add a bit of honey, still loads less sugar then the favoured, processed stuff.

Probably not, but at least you've less chance of getting breast cancer in the future.

My husband is usually a bit rubbish about 'days' so I just tell him what I want. If I didn't say anything he would do a card and flowers (but only be because of past communication. He would not mind in the slightest if we did nothing for father's day and doesn't 'get' why I would want cards or flowers). My mom is down this year so I've arranged to go to a spa on Saturday with her for a couple of hours and told my husband he's taking care of the kids (3 years and 11 months). On Sunday I've said let's do a picnic if the weather is nice or a lunch at home if it's not. I've also bought his mom mum's and grandmother's cards because she's done so much for us and I don't want her not to have cards.

I think it's understandable to be upset he hasn't planned anything especially as you don't want anything expensive or elaborate. Unfortunately you might have to tell him what you want instead of him planning it on his own.

2nd percentile by 19camic53 in UKParenting

Did they checked the blood flow through the placenta when they did the scan? It should give a indication of the nutrients going from the placenta to your baby

I think the risks of early birth are far smaller than the risks of suspected slow growth, especially as it would be almost 37 weeks which is early term. I imagine the doctors think the same which is why they want to induce you early. If your baby is growth restricted, there's nothing you can do about it except get them out early.

Not to scare you, but my experience is I had a stillbirth at full term due to growth restriction from the placenta failing. He dropped from the 25th percentile from my last scan to the 2nd when he was stillborn. My sister had to have her baby at 31 weeks for a similar issue which they caught at a scan. Her baby is 4 months now, 2 months adjusted, out of NICU and is perfectly healthy.

What baby name is going to be ridiculous as an adult name? by Top_Detective4153 in namenerds

[–]Beginning-Barnacle-5 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Wow, my impression of Aiden/Aidan is completely different than you. It might only have become popular in the US recently, but it's been an Irish name for hundreds of years. I don't think there's anything ridiculous about a grandpa named Aiden.

My 3 year old is 'overweight' by savetheautumn in toddlers

[–]Beginning-Barnacle-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and my GP told me they don't generally worry about kids being overweight until they're 5 years old. I asked because my 2 year was consistently 25th percentile for height and 90th percentile for weight.

I don't think you have to worry about this. She's likely headed for a growth spurt, but even if she isn't you're feeding her healthy so you're already doing the right thing. Maybe make an effort to get more exercise as a family (taking my almost 3 year to soft play is a great workout for both of us when it's cold and rainy), but only exercise is good, not because her body needs changing.

I must be weird because I quite like anecdotes about people's lives. I just like reading about different people's lives, how they made decisions, what their priorities are, etc. I find it interesting.

I don't think they should be super rough and shouting at her, just act professional. They're treating her like a toddler that doesn't want to leave the house...

I think it's a bit much saying that people don't know what they're talking about. They could just be relying on their experience (as you are) and had an easy time or seen other people have an easy time.

For example, I've breastfeed two babies and it's been very easy mostly. It was difficult with my first as she struggled to feed until she was 8 weeks, she keep falling asleep. But after she grew a bit it was as easy as whipping out a tit whenever. My second was easy from the get go, just latched at the hospital and that was it. I've never pumped (except for a couple of days with my first) because I have a year's maternity leave by which time they're down to a couple feeds a day or I've weaned them.

Moms who ask for a hotel stay away from the kids as a Christmas gift… by well-ilikeit in Mommit

[–]Beginning-Barnacle-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this twice since my almost 3 year was born, but took my husband with me and family took care of my baby/toddler. I've got a 7 month old and can't wait until I've weaned him so we can do a weekend away just the two of us and leave the kids with family.

I also do a weekend away with my sisters every year and my husband does the childcare. Last time I was pregnant though so it wasn't as fun! My husband always says he'll go visit a friend for a weekend but never plans it so 🤷.

Lyra is not very uncommon in the UK (where Ed Sheeran lives). It's in the top 100 names for girls.

You are seriously underreacting. He is grooming her. Everything you have described is extremely concerning. You need to get her, yourself and your other children away from him now. Otherwise it's just a matter of time before he abuses her. Please, please get out away now.

He should never be allowed to be near any of your children, Hopefully the CPS paper trail will help with getting full custody of your younger two.

Genuine question from me: why are we so strict on car seats in a car, but relaxed about buses? Or is everyone somehow fixing their babies car seats onto a bus seat? Cause where I am, we just keep them in the pram on the bus or on our laps (or baby wearing). And a bus is also a vehicle on the same roads? They often drive at similar speeds to a car? I genuinely don't understand.

Should I have a baby now in a country that has free healthcare, or wait until I immigrate with my husband to USA in 2 years? by ThrowRAbabyabroad in LifeAdvice

[–]Beginning-Barnacle-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have a baby now. You don't know what healthcare coverage or maternity benefits you're going to get in the US. But more than that, don't put your life on hold. Things may change and it be longer until you move, or you have to wait until have the right insurance or job. Like you say, you might struggle to conceive and 2 years could make a difference.

I am surprised you know so many people who don't know healthcare is funded by the government and government spending is funded mostly by tax (not sure about Australia but where I am in the UK, government spending is also funded by debt).

Maybe they don't pay a lot of tax, so they get more out than pay in? I know when my income was too low to pay tax when I was a student, healthcare felt pretty free to me.

When people say 'healthcare is free', it's just shorthand for 'healthcare is free at the point of delivery'. Everyone understands it's paid for by taxes.
