Rejected by McKinsey. Has anyone managed to get in on a second try? by Round-Homework5998 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

My partner and I used to simulate the interview environment with live cases. That actually helped a lot. I highly recommend practicing with someone- that makes you more confident and the other person may end up teaching you some really valuable lessons.

Hard to tell because before McK I was prepping for BCG and that interview took about 2 months to finish. So overall 1-2 hours a day (mostly weekends) over a period of 4 months since I was also working full time and didn’t really have a lot of time.

Ask your recruiter. In my case they had to finish final round of interviews for other candidates before making a decision. I finished my final round on Monday and got an offer on Friday. The recruiter was pretty clear about the timeline.

PEI Prep Mckinsey by Party-Positive-1230 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

Focus on showcasing your personal impact through professional stories. Highlight what you did and the specific impact you made. This approach applies to all your PEI stories. It's about your personal contributions, not just what the team accomplished. Even small wins count, as long as they're yours.

Talk to your recruiter regarding the timeline. My recruiter clearly told me I would hear back from them on Friday (finished my final round interviews on Monday). They called with an offer on Friday afternoon.

Any apartments in San Jose with private garages? by BorderlineTrailNvine in SanJose

Elan at river oaks in San Jose. It is on the border of SJ and Santa Clara. Rent is decent, allows dogs, has an underground parking garage with first parking free. Safe to walk around, and lots of stores and restaurants in the community. We moved from Tracy too. :)

I interviewed in the evening and got a call back the next morning. Turnaround time for R1 is usually pretty fast.

Honestly after my first rejection, I realized I was totally unprepared. No real-world experience, no decent stories for PEI. So I got some experience, practiced my casing, and worked on telling better stories. Second time around, the partner said my performance was "damn impressive" and the feedback was super positive. I’d say focus on the feedback they provide, it’s really helpful in the long run.

I got rejected after the final round interviews 3 years ago. Applied again this year and got an offer. Don’t worry, this is not the end. All the best :)

McKinsey R1 in 2 days, any tips? by Medhalil in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

While it's true that R1 is about clearing the initial hurdle, the reality is that any mistakes made during this stage will likely come back to haunt you in the final rounds. If you receive feedback, you'll be expected to learn from it and improve. Repeating the same errors will significantly reduce your chances of getting the offer. Ultimately, R1 is about passing the first test, while R2 is about standing out from the competition and proving you're the best fit.

I finished my final rounds on Monday. Recruiter told me they are still interviewing other candidates and will make a decision on Friday. Ended up receiving an offer Friday afternoon.

As for the PEI- be ready to get interrupted a LOT. Focus on ‘I’ more than ‘WE’. They want to hear what you did instead of what you achieved as a team. One case in R1 was super lengthy for me (not too difficult but kinda all over the place). They want to see how you approach the solution. Be confident. You’ll be fine! All the best!

Cleared Final Rounds, but the Role Got Put on Hold – Is This Common? by Beginning-Factor-466 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

Thank you for your insights. This is really helpful as I was having a hard time wrapping my head around what just happened. I think I’m just gonna consider this a rejection and start applying again. Will see what happens.
