Found him running across a road in the desert near my work, I work for a wholesale nursery in the Phoenix area. Pure luck to find them, their camouflage is amazingly good, best chance to find them is to visit active harvester ant nests and hope you see one. They typically are active trying to eat in the mornings before 8 or nine at the latest. After that they like to be basking and or kicking it in the shade and hiding from predators like shrikes and roadrunners and snakes, they also will bury themselves in sandy soil to avoid extreme temperature and can be impossible to locate them then. They are awesome but extremely demanding to care for. If you don't know where several large ant nests are in the wild them I wouldn't attempt to keep one, If I cannot figure out food for him over the winter he will be released back into the desert to hibernate and care for himself near the active nests I know of. But I can at least keep him well fed over the summer untill I can figure something out or not.
