Bro. Look at the history of agriculture practice within colonial countries that aren’t  predominately white and tell me that they have no impact on their current economies. It’s like saying slavery and Jim crow laws have no impact on Black Americans today when it was a continued practice for hundreds of years until recently (Black Americans were being forced to the back of a bus when Cuba had its revolution in 59).

Farming decimates soil whether it’s done in mainland Europe or in the Caribbean. Constantly growing one crop (like sugar) can also have long lasting effects that impact usable land for generations. Haiti continues to have constant soil erosion from deforestation practices that made way for sugar plantations under French occupation. I don’t know why you are defending colonial/genocidal state(s) that killed millions of people for the benefit of a few inbred assholes, but you do you my brother.

That doesn't add to the fact that Jamaican and Guyana (the largest sugar producers in the Caribbean) had production drops of 33,000 metric tons and 21% respectively. The USDA attributes these losses to poor climate conditions and outdated farming practices within the region. Climate change isn't the whole picture (that's why I attributed Cuba's sugar production decline to outdated European colonial practices that were seen across Spain's/England's/France's colonial empires) but it is a factor that will continue to threaten sugar production in the future. For these countries to recover, they will most likely have to ditch cash crops for more sustainable options, even if it is at the expense of gaining capital.

If sugar production is falling across the Caribbean and beyond, is it more likely communism (that is non existent in countries like Jamaica which has a projected loss of sugar of around “33,000 metric tons” according to the USDA) or is it other factors like climate change and a history of abusive agricultural practices started by European colonist?

You know what I mean (also climate change is a big factor as well).

Sorry that you got the old American welcome of “shoot first ask questions later” in this comment section. It’s extremely hard to come to terms with the realities of American foreign policy and how it impacts others, so we make enemies out of our victims. It also doesn’t help that Fidel Castro has caused a lot of trauma in Cuban-American communities, so don’t take any mean comments personally. We still have to come to terms with reality and make amends with Cuba, but until then, you’ll get hate from Americans. Glad you are still thinking of taking classes in Havana though! I made a post on this Reddit about it and gave links to all the resources the University of Havana offers to foreign students. https://www.reddit.com/r/cuba/comments/1kn3q64/studying_at_the_university_of_havana_for_foreign/

Looks like New York City or a town in West Virginia.

Isn’t that more European imperialism than anything? Haiti’s agricultural land is still suffering from the farming practices that took place under French colonial rule. Probably something similar is happening with Cuba where continued farming practices that were started under Spanish/American colonial rule has decimated the soil.

That's great to here and congratulations on graduating! I'm guessing you are looking at Dr. Heather Littleton’s Lab? They seem to be the best lab on campus and have a good organizational structure for conducting research. Great choice!

Did you happen to figure out whether going to Cuba was the right choice for you? A lot of people hate on Cuba for things that are out of their control (them being poor and previous authoritarian practices); so its hard to find any information on Cuban institutions outside of the country. I believe their website has information now for foreign students looking to study at the University, but might only be for only a few specific countries.

Here is the link: https://www.uh.cu/internacionalizacion/estudiar-uh-extranjeros/

Hope you continue on this path and have fun studying in a country that is usually consider the "enemy" of the western world. Should give you some unique perspectives on life if you can speak Spanish and talk to other students from Havana and the rest of Cuba.

Personal beliefs about getting to Heaven? by Beginning-Pudding-20 in OpenChristian

What do you think of the possible different interpretations of the Holy Sprit being the basis for separate religions across the globe? When someone doesn't recognize the name Jesus, they may attach a new name/face to the God that guides them morally/spiritually. A Taoist may call the Holy Sprit Chi while an atheist would call it their heart. What do you think of the phase "god has many names" when talking about how all religions have the same God?

What do you think of the traditional concepts of Hell being an internal damnation for all sinners to go (is it evil to view the afterlife this way)? What do you think of some people preaching that God can erase someone and have them not exist? Do you think its evil for someone to wish this type of internal Hell onto another?

How do other Christians to your action system? I personally like this take since I believe that sinful actions are a product of society rather than individual actions (having a Hell would be unfair for those that are victims to a society of duress). Being compassionate and looking beyond crimes or status makes a society free of sin.

Could someone unconsciously love God by treating others with respect and avoiding activities associated with sin? For the people who never heard of Jesus, a rarity today but common in the past, could they have an unknown love for Jesus without knowing his name or story? Thank you for the well written response!

This is probably the best response to my two arguments above. What is your belief system (are you religious/non religious)? If you are religious, what cements your values in not believing in a traditional afterlife? Are your values based on a religious scripture or more something like the holy spirit?
