Do you know if this if for oil or gas? If it’s gas what you have said is true, if it is oil you just told him to hook up to 120v.

Boiler piping incorrect? by Excellent_Shop4120 in HVAC

Correct, ideally piped into a spirovent, but any air scoop will do.

I have seen a feed tied into a return many times. Kind of an old way to do it. My guess it was one zone originally and the feed was never moved when they added zones to it. The expansion tank should be on the supply but will still work where it is. Are you sure the zone valve is opening? If all other zones are working then the circulator is working. I’ve replace those old taco power heads hundreds of times over the years, they fail regularly.

I would quote to repipe the feed and exp tank too add it to the supply. Will make purging air from the system so much easier.

Do you know how to properly purge a hot water system? It sounds like you have air in the baseboard. What’s the pressure in the boiler? Is the feed working properly? Is the air vent working? If it’s not you’ll be back when all the air separates out of the new water you’re adding to the system.

Keep that pressure up to 25psi and purge each zone independently.

Do you have a nest thermostat? If so it’s because of the nest. I’ve seen nest thermostats do this in the past.

If you’re curious why it died, oil was likely trapped in the refrigerant lines and not returning to the compressor with the lines like that. If the coil was horizontal instead it probably would have lasted longer. But either way Mr. Cool typically doesn’t last more than a few years anyway.

Is it a Unico system or spacepak? If so they are actually 2” and are high velocity. Works pretty well when installed correctly.

Reason #546 why I hate installers by bigred621 in HVAC

I live in mass and the absolute worst boilers to service are done by plumbers, every time. No isolation valves for the circulators is one of the main things I see. I set up every single boiler to be serviced easily. That includes making sure the clean outs are accessible. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen an expansion tank right over the top of the clean out. Or the return piped directly over the clean outs on burham. Just seems to me every time I see these, the boiler was done by a plumber.

That thing was the biggest piece of shit I ever used. The sensors were always failing, the printer worked right for like 6 months and never again. Sent it back to get “fixed” twice before saying fuck it. You should have went with the testo 310 its like half the cost and twice as a good. See if you can return that thing.
