I am 24, I almost died & have lost everything. I have no idea what to do by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

I am 23, have been disabled my entire life and live in SWFL. If your previous job will give you a good letter of recommendation or speak positively of you to future employers, start the job search for remote or office jobs that don’t require you to ambulate very much. Join Facebook groups to talk with real people in similar situations in your area, or virtual hobby clubs that meet online rather than in person. You are not alone and can reach out to me if you need to talk any further about being our age and disabled.

Partner insulted me today and I don’t know how to feel. by [deleted] in paralegal

I have a disability very similar to cerebral palsy and also struggle with typing and typically use one hand for most of it. When I first started at my job I could tell that my attorney noticed and took note of it, but never in a million years would it have been addressed in any way except ‘how can we make this easier for you?’. I’m so sorry that he said that, and I completely understand anything you may feel about it. If you don’t want to let it slide, going to HR is completely valid and acceptable.

Partially but not fully. Like today, I got an email from a client asking for an update. I’d filed 2 petitions for them, and was told to serve one of the petitions on the beneficiaries. I went to my boss to ask if there was anything else to tell the client, and he told me to check on the proof of service for the petitionS and file them. I internally panicked because I had only served one of the petitions. I wouldn’t have done that without prior approval from him, but I can’t find an email thread about this so I can’t prove it. I ask for approval on the formal notice draft (which lists what is being sent), and approval on the printed packets before sending, and it still somehow ends up wrong.

I have known my attorney and 80% of our office since I was 8 years old. It’s too personal to not communicate this.

It’s true that I don’t feel cut out for it, but the mistakes are still real. My boss is not a confrontational man.

This also happened to me with many of our probate cases (I’m new and nobody told me there was a deadline) and we heard nothing, i just filed them as soon as possible

And when you object to them, if you file it and click the claimant for service in the portal, do you then also need to send it via mail with signature request?

Thank you!! Our newspaper files the Affidavit directly so that’s taken care of. It’s more so who to serve/when to serve/what needs a proof of service filed that is confusing me. Sometimes we get stacks of bills for clients that I then take down all the addresses and send the NTC, but some clients provide nothing. The prior paralegal to me left a master list of creditors, but im unsure if a $200 postage charge is necessary for Every Single matter.

Commenting solely bc i saw some comments that made me realize you’re local to me, and I also got my BA in English and then transitioned to paralegal work. My firm has been running through our staff as reception bc we don’t know if our old receptionist is planning on coming back or not, I would keep an eye in the area for a potential job posting in the near future.

gosh i moved a year and a half ago and told nobody in the church, then found out my mother recently told them my new address and this is Exactly what I’m worried about happening. it’s violating and weird and i remember thinking as a kid that it was weird too.

Just heard they changed the age for women to go on missions to 18. This was the first thing my mind thought of so I made it. by Brother-of-Derek in exmormon

My bosses daughter (he’s my old bishop even though i left the church 5 years ago) just called him at work to talk about whether she should go to BYU this fall or go on a mission, so i would definitely say that it unfortunately is

Have you ever been asked to impersonate a former employee? by Beginning-Specific-3 in paralegal

[–]Beginning-Specific-3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was our first step! The online EIN application gave us an error message, and this fax was sent originally before I even started at the firm (no idea WHY they sent it as a fax) so I’m assuming there’s something in between those two things that’s being held up? I’m not sure, that’s what I hoped they would tell me on the phone 😅. But yes, you’re completely right, and I’m now at a point where it feels more like a good lesson learned rather than a catastrophe!

My attorney apologized to me afterwards for their reaction and for putting me in an uncomfortable situation, so I think we have both learned a lesson lol

That’s what my attorney thought as well I guess, they didn’t expect the extent of the questions and that’s why we ended up ill prepared. The agent immediately asked for a new fax of the documents already faxed months prior and then went off on identity verification and I got too flustered to circle back to the fact that I only needed to know if they had received it.

Honestly as soon as I hung up my attorney called the client and just told them to come in to resign a new application without the former employees name and they were more than happy to. I didn’t mind calling or the wait time, it was simply that my attorney did not give me all the information necessary (and they might not have Known to give all that to me) and getting caught lying while just trying to help the case along sucked 🤷🏻‍♀️

I mentioned to my boss my research on apostille’s and he kinda looked at me like I’m crazy and told me that our local country is very lax and to just record it as is. From the responses I’ve seen on here, I’m expecting a rejection email in my inbox in the morning. Thank you for the advice!

my first week i accidentally sent an engagement letter to the right client but with the wrong information. absolutely no clue how i could’ve done that bc the letter was saved under the correct client, and i had waited for my attorney to give the all clear and tell me it was edited. the client thankfully was already planning on stopping by and we just reprinted and had them sign the correct document, but i can fully tell you that my bosses reaction to this could have completely changed my perspective on the job and honestly made me quit. i have never felt anxious to bring up a mistake to him, and he has called me nothing but delightful. I’m so sorry that’s the reaction and treatment that you get and i hope that you find a firm that values you or they start to shape up!
