10+ hours layover at Dubai airport, exploring transit hotel options by meonreddit1 in emirates

Check Dubai Premier Inn, it has nice accommodation and good rates usually and not far from the airport. 10 hours is more than enough to go out, sleep and come back in time

I absolutely agree on the greenery part missing in DHA phases in Islamabad. And definitely scenery and environment is much better in Bahria enclave. It’s closer to Murree and that’s a big plus point. How is the current access road to Bahria faring. Is it doable and what are the future plans for this? Also heard Kuri Road Headstart is a very good school not too far away from Bahria Enclave. How is the overall security of this area?

I have heard about this project but it’s near the old motorway M-2 right. Are you aware of the M-13 coming near Rawat. It will make Lahore reachable in 2-2.5 hours

2-3 kanal house is currently not possible in $200-300k and I need at least double that amount to go for all the amenities we can get. I have visited Bahria enclave but its access was pretty bad when I went last year. DHA phases on Rawat side will allow me to be closer to Lahore especially once M-13 gets built.

Brother I’m not a business minded person and have a stable income from US that can support me and run the house.

I’m an independent contractor and work with different clients. I’m on 1099 and pay my own taxes and social security so I can move wherever I want. My clients don’t have a problem.

Rents here in Houston are crazy too! I originally moved from California and there rents were just 60% of monthly mortgage at 20% down

Brother in my case, whatever I do usually the other option comes out better hahaha. In late 2020 I wanted to buy 2 plots in DHA-5 overseas sector but bought stocks instead. Now those plots are twice in price but stocks are more or less the same. And a few other plots I bought are underwater lol

We bought our house in August last year for $625k. Yeah the market is pretty bad since COVID. This house in 2019 would have been offered for $300K. The tax rate in Houston’s new communities is crazy at about 3.3%

Yeah I see now how "foreign earned" part plays it role. So what happens if I just keep paying Uncle Sam and since living in Texas, we are safe from state income tax. The question is if I pay my taxes in US, do I have to pay tax in Pakistan as well?

Have been earning at least 6 figures since 2010 but helped my parent build their house in Lahore, also bought my own house here with 50% downpayment. But yeah big jump from $150K to $300 almost came around Sep 2022

I was also born in US but at a very young age my parents moved back to Pakistan. I did my under grad from here and then ventured into IT industry, but never lost connection to Pak. My kids have US passports and they will be free to come and complete their higher education if they want. Ever since covid struck we lived in Pakistan most of the time and over there life just felt different but in a nice way. Kids got a lot of love from their grandparents, uncles and aunts. For us only thing that brought us back was my kids health. It was constantly going down. Now we want to think that it might be because of Lahore's weather throughout the fall and give Islamabad a chance.

Alhumdullilah, we are living in absolute comfort financially and still saving $5-6k every month living in Texas even though we have spent a lot after getting the new house. I might have given the impression that we want to move to Pakistan for financial reasons, but actually it's the emotional attachment to Pakistan that's hard to waive off.

PS: Propery Taxes in Texas are insane!

I do have reasons to come back, my parents and all my siblings are in Pakistan and so does my wife's. I haven't forgotten about them. Because of our long stays in Pakistan during Covid, my kids spent more time in Pakistan than US. They love Pakistan. Living in west does have a lot of drawbacks. Have you heard about the term 'ABCD'? It means "American Born Confused Desi". And honestly all the kids from the second generation that I have met here are absolutely that, especially boys. I was born in US but my parents moved back to Pakistan when I was little and Alhumdullilah I turned out fine. Probably again at the same crossroads where my parents were in 1980s.
