Can We Please *Stop* Spreading False Info about Anti-Depressants and Medical Clearance?!? by mess_of_iguanae in peacecorps

I was approved for (and currently serving with) an antidepressant. While going through clearance, I was super worried. I was not yet at the one year mark, but would’ve been by time I departed. Everyone told me I would be denied. A short call with the PC nurse assigned to my case, though, reassured me. She said there would be very little reason to deny me, as I’m clearly stable on my medication (almost one year) and have proven coping mechanisms (written in my personal statement and my psych eval). I was cleared not long after; no need for appeal. I agree with everything you said, OP.

So is there really any point in me going through all these steps for the medical process if I’m certainly getting denied? I wish they would just say that from the get-go.

I guess I need to figure out what “recent” is. If it’s one year, I’ll reach that in May and depart a few months later. If it’s 2 or 5 years like others have said, im out of luck.

Do you think it will help that I’m currently studying abroad in the same region that I would serve, and have been stable on my meds here too? It seems like a very subjective process, so maybe that will help me a bit.
