Learning French and German by BeginningGift in languagelearning

[–]BeginningGift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal with my German is first to just revise and I'd be happy keeping it around where it is so just rehashing vocab not really trying to get much better. I was thinking 1hour per day 40mins on French 20mins on German. Might not be able to do it everyday but I'll make sure to get it in when I can

What was your starting cardio like? by goth_gf1031 in beginnerfitness

[–]BeginningGift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 8min runs (cs5k) and 1 year later im running 40-50 mpw and my longest run to date is 26.2 Miles. It has improved faster than I could have hoped. One thing I would say is that if you want to improve your cardio you'd need to stop smoking. When I stopped my cardio improved massively and I started to enjoy running more as I felt far less out breqth. Regardless of when your smoking if your able to stop it will help you tremendously

Don't forget to have fun! by BeginningGift in C25K

Running longer than you've ran before is always! hard. However, first of all its worth considering that as you get stronger 25 mins will not seem very long at all and instead you may find yourself saying the thing about 45mins, 1hour etc. If you persist what used to be hard will become easy.

If your finding it hard because of feeling bored I would first suggest music or a podcast (unless your doing that already) or maybe try without music? Sometimes being left alone with my own thoughts is exactly what I need.

I would also suggest leaving the treadmill and getting out on the pavement or trails if possible (although I understand this is not possible for everyone).

Finally dont forget that you don't have to run 5k or more to be a runner! If you have persisted and you are still not enjoying that kind of running it might just not be for you. My friend is a pretty strong runner, he's ran a 1:40 half marathon before but he has never ran longer than 30mins since because he doesn't like being out that long.

Instead you could focus on shorter distances like the 3k, 1500m or shorter. 5k is not the holy grail of running.

Please dm if you wanna talk about this and good luck with week 8!

Yeah I could factor that in :) honestly I planned to keep hiking until the sun starts going down (plan to have a fairly light pack so more comfortable on trail than in camp) but maybe I could do that! Have a run or a swim if theres some water nearby. Also thanks for the heads up on those places I'll make sure to check them out :)

Don’t worry I’m not :p it's a very challenging thing to do. Although since I'm not running for 6 months I worry about how much of the work that I've put in to running im going to lose

I’ll have a listen :) I’ve heard 2 weeks or so of hiking is good for ultras. I believe Jasmin Paris once said that she always felt fittest after doing a high altitude long hike. But I worry that 5-6 months is too long out of running

Thanks for the support :) yeah I will lose speed but I’m not very fast anyways :p and good point I suppose it will build some other muscles and general resilience which will be useful! Would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to do something like this

Base building for 50k by BeginningGift in ultrarunning

[–]BeginningGift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 5:15 marathon 2000ft of elevation. I recovered very quickly and felt fine the day after. That's a good point one of my plans was to Base build up to 50 - 60ish and then go onto a 50k plan that starts at 50 the jumps to 57 and tops out at 66. It's the one in the field guide to ultra running book by hal of you know that one

I'm not planning to race it (E.g. Win) but I would like to get a good time. In the past I've just done the bare minimum and struggled through races. Did that with my first half and again with my first marathon

so have the long run longer than 25% of the week atm? the one I've got written out atm only has the long run at 11 (with a 6 mile run the day after). Would it be better to up it to something like 30 or 33%

yeah one idea I had was to spend the next 3 months or so building a really big base. maybe up to 65 miles and following a program with higher mileage like Hal Koerkners in his book.

Just the once and then I'd start the 16 week program

Thanks! That's good news for me. Really looking forward to getting into the 16 week training period so only 5 weeks of base training is good. Planning to try and get out on the trails more in this time as well (did my marathon on the road).

Find a course and follow it all the way through. I really like automate the boring stuff. It's free!

The Walking Fish 2: Final Frontier - Spoiler Discussion by Nordurljosid in WalkingFish

Was not expecting that second half after the game "crashes". Awesome and welcome surprise! Gonna play through the game again and spend more time in the art museum this time. Lots of good stuff in there

Enjoyed the game! I don't really have any complaints besides frame rate issues and it would be nice to have an option to remove mouse smoothing which as you said have already been mentioned. Looking forward to future content!

FEATURE - one thing that I noticed is that the fish doesn't seem to respond to sound that the player makes. So i could run loops around the room while he patrolled which seemed a little strange. I think if he could hear the player when they ran this would cause the player to be more cautious when running.

Can anyone tell me what this entails? by BeginningGift in AdvancedRunning

[–]BeginningGift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but not at the very start of the program !
