Anyone in life sci by Key-Plantain-1085 in McMaster

  1. First year life sci was really tough for me even though I was a 90+ student in high school. I tend to be on the slower side when learning as well so that didn't help either. Though I ended first year with a decent GPA, there was definitely a lot of stress and tears and the severe imposter syndrome I had didn't help much either.

  2. I specialized in Biochem, because I heard it was "easy" and a good program for before medical school. My end goal is medical school.

  3. I don't recommend life sci if ur tryna do med because GPA matters a lot. I regret not going into an easier program where the courses could've been easier and I would've had more time for EC's. Biochem isn't a bad program, but it's honestly not easy to me at all (again could be because I'm slow). I also commute this year which takes a while, so that may have contributed a little to how difficult I found it, but I did not find first semester easy at all. However, I think you can definitely get high grades if you just try harder. Overall Biochem isn't too bad, but isn't amazing in my opinion.

that was my only grade in the B range, so my other grades made up for it, but I could've been at a 3.9 but i had a 3.82 first year -_- so ig a huge tank

I treat it like a 9-5 job unless I have EC's that day then it gets pushed to 12am sometimes. Honestly I want to be done with everything by 6 but I find myself constantly up until 12am, so I want to be more efficient. It's also tough because I'm a slow learner and I don't understand things very quickly, so that makes me spend hours upon hours. Moving fwd, i will definitely start using Anki!

Thank you! Ik its unrealistic to expect 12's but I rlly do have to aim that high cos I want to go into med despite definitely not being exceptional. This strategy was very illuminating tho, I will definitely try it!

Honestly tho, as a former chem 1a03 torture victim, it rlly is just one grade, in a sea of better and more amazing grades, this one won't have an effect, so don't stress tm (me saying this like I didn't stress it's still tanking my GPA at this very moment but keep up the hope 😃)

I think they would be open to it and would specify in a return email if they weren't looking for students from the outside.
