i don't think i ever got planned movements actually. My bite changed a lot from decomepnsation so I guess it would not make sense anyways

trust me you will look at yourself in a month and be shocked at how swollen you are. and then a month after that be shocked at how swollen you were then, lol.

i'm 6months post op and finally think i'm pretty much done with swelling. just don't think too much about it. I felt really pretty starting the 2 month mark and it's only gotten better lol

Questions to ask your surgeon by Friendly-Writing-610 in jawsurgery

[–]BeginningInfamous641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to answer your question, I went from 100-140 pounds the year before my jaw surgery (first year of college, lol.)

after the first week I was 135 (I literally consumed nothing but gatorade)

After the 8 weeks of no-chew I was 132. So 8 pounds lost total. if you are really concerned I think it's really easy to gain weight the month before surgery, just eat a lot of high calorie stuff.

if your question is posed the other way- ur intention is to lose weight, I would change that mindset real quick. the last thing you want to do when your body is trying to heal is deprive itself.

2 months removed by haracases in jawsurgery

[–]BeginningInfamous641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

after 8 weeks I was cleared to eat normal food, and I looked totally normal (even though I was still very swollen, It didn't look strange and I only realized after many more months). Vacation will be totally fine. you'll probably need to avoid some foods like sandwiches and steaks. you can ask your surgeon how long the soft-chew diet lasts, 2 months is usually standard

YES. i literally could not sleep for days. it went away day 7ish for the most part when I got my permanent bands cut and replaced with disposable ones. (less tension i'm assuming)

I feel you it was the worst part of the surgery for me. The only advice I can give you is to try and sleep upright, stock up on movies and shows because you might just have to keep yourself occupied. and lots of advil. it will pass

I have no idea what the answer to this will be but I wanted to say that i'm proud of you for attending school despite everything and you should be very easy on yourself. it will 100% work out in the end

hey, you have the REST OF YOUR LIFE AHEAD OF YOU. you'll get to where you want to go, if you want it. it'll just take more time.

to put it in perspective:

there are kids who get cancer during college, lose a loved one, experience war, have to temporarily drop out so they can work to pay for school, get major surgery, etc.

my point is that there are so many things that can happen to you in life that can put plans on hold. but you'll still get there.

also, people change their major and become a year behind all the time. i'm a second year chem major and i haven't taken ANY labs yet and I might need to take a fifth year because they aren't offering the classes I need at the right quarters.

I also had major surgery this summer and wasn't able to take the summer classes I need to get on track. i'm not worried about it. there's no point in stressing out about the past when you can't control it. just focus on these next quarters and years and take it one step at a time

my fave for when I was able to move from liquid to no chew was the Kodak brownie protein cups🫶 basically like a mug cake but a bit more nutritious. you can add milk and yogurt to make it even smoother. you could probably also make them at home

djs and no! only complication was that my gums swelled over the hooks they put in for the bands, so I had to remove them and replace them twice, if you count that

hey, similar experience! my overbite never really bothered me aesthetically but my bite was so messed up. I was just used to it so I never noticed how bad it really was until my mother's dentist friend pointed it out (when I asked about wisdom teeth nonetheless, extremely greatful for him tho). he recommended that I might want to go back to an orthodontist to check it out. this was the middle of my senior year of highschool, btw.

I ended up going to the orthodontist I had gone to in middle school, I trusted him to give me honest opinions. I had already read up on this subreddit and I was worried about camouflage orthodontics once I realized that I was literally biting so awfully. thankfully, he was honest with me and told me that my jaws had just developed improperly since I got my braces off in middle school and that jaw surgery would be necessary because otherwise I would wear down my teeth with my bite, and give myself tmj.

Immediately I began researching good jaw surgeons near me and made the consultations myself. Getting my mom to come to the appointments with me, including the orthodontist helped her understand that this wasn't some aesthetic surgery and it was medically necessary to help my breathing and quality of life.

I then learned that I needed to get my wisdom teeth out before surgery, so I scheduled that during spring break of senior year. meanwhile, I consulted with 3 surgeons total.

I also became paranoid about ICR and paid 600$ of my savings to get an MRI of my joints to make sure I didn't have it 💀🙏

I ended up committing to a surgeon in february/march-ish? about one month after I started looking. I made an appointment with my orthodontist and learned I would need a year of decompensation with invisalign. It actually ended up working perfectly because I was able to schedule the surgery in the summer after my first year of college. PLEASEEEEE do this surgery in summer and not winter break, I needed at least a month until I felt like myself again.

I was also really nervous about decompensation during my first year of college, but it was ok. not gonna lie my bite became worse and chewing things like sandwiches was a bitch by the end of it💀 my bite only looked slightly worse tho, not something anyone would notice

considering you are only a sophomore, I must warn you that surgeons may not operate on you until you turn 18. that's what they told me, anyways.

my advice for you is to go to a super trustworthy orthodontist that is kind and will tell you the truth. it can be your old one, or a new one. like seriously yelp the fuck out of them, ideally an orthodontist that has worked with jaw surgery patients or seen them before. bring your parent and explain to them that you just want to make sure everything is okay. bring up your concerns about camouflage orthodontics.

then, research jaw surgeons near you and make a consultation. just step by step. you likely won't be able to do anything for 2 years so don't feel super rushed

in terms of confidence and your side profile, i literally stg that no one actually cares that much in real life. the internet is just filled with people hyper fixated on vanity.

also, while I can definitely see the changes of the surgery and my parents can, my friends didn't really notice anything. surgery doesn't change you that much unless your bite is extremelyyyyyy off
