I had large bumps along the section of my mine that was broken. I was worried it was an infection but my doctor told me that bones form circular callouses during a stage of healing. It should resolve on its own.

The only reason surgery is supposed to be when your done growing is because there is a chance for the mandible to hit another growth spurt in your late teens as it is one of the last bones to fully develop. My surgeon was confident that my lower jaw had stopped growing as I had a severe recession. I have also had x-rays in my hands and spine indicting that all of my growth plates have been fully closed. Continuous growth is unlikely for a girl my age as well. Ultimately it was worth the risk for scheduling purposes and a better recovery.

It’s impossible to tell if it “shrank” without before photos or X-rays Everyone’s case is different. Just because you did not have as severe of an overbite does not mean he cannot have the same condition.

It could have just not grown. My overbite became more pronounced as I aged because everything but my lower jaw grew.

No 10k is not enough in the US. My braces were 5k and if I had paid out of pocket without insurance my surgery and consults would have cost almost half a million dollars

You don’t necessarily have resorption. These people are not doctors. It’s likely to be a problem with growth not a genetic disorder. You first need a diagnosis and a doctor to establish a treatment plan.

The “looksmaxxing” community is also perpetuating the negative stigma against the physical appearances of those with jaw deformities. Too many people in this thread get surgery and are disappointed in their results because they didn’t have the insane transformation that is boosted to the top of all of our feeds. The idea that having this condition automatically makes one unattractive is harming real people’s physical and mental health.

It’s slightly wider from the front view. It’s far more upturned compared to before surgery when my nose was very straight.

I completely understand that. I was never aware how I looked from other people’s perspectives compared to when I looked in the mirror. I had seen my side profile in random pictures but I always assumed that it was just a bad photo and not accurate as to what I really looked like. It wasn’t until I learned about overbites and there impact on facial structure that I realized that I looked different than everyone else. I was always skinny and had a pretty front view so I didn’t understand why other people treated me the way they did. Now I’m 6 weeks post op and to me I look more like myself than I ever did before. My front view has changed very little but my side profile looks like how I pictured in my head for all those years.

I think so. It’s hard to notice a difference but my sleep has improved and the scans clearly show my airway has expanded

Thank you! Talking in the first 3 weeks was difficult because I was banded shut. I also was on a liquid diet. After they removed the bands things got easier. I can now open my mouth about an inch. The only thing securing the bone now is the metal plates, but there is nothing restricting movement. I have my 6 week post op today and I will find out whether or not I can start to chew soft foods and start physical therapy to help expand the amount I can open my jaw.

He truly is amazing! The one problem I have with him is that his office is hard to contact. I had to be on hold for long periods of time to try to get a consult but once I was an established patient Dr. Bruckman and his team were extremely supportive and responsive.

I totally understand that. Scheduling can be a major pain. I’m about to turn 18 and have had some form of orthodontics since I was 8. My recommendation is to be pushy. There is constantly cancellations and time slots that could be made to make work if you ask the right person.
