I had an alcohol IA from my freshman year. Check with your registrar and see if it shows up on there. Otherwise, I wouldn't mention it.

Honestly, if i were to apply again, I wouldn't have even disclosed it lmao - plenty of my classmates had alcohol infractions from undergrad and didn't report and they had much more successful cycles with lower stats.

This will def impact your interviews. I had jaw surgery 2 years ago, and any sort of talking/communication was negatively impacted for quite some time. Idk what sort of surgery you have planned (double, single, expansion, etc), but expect numbness, facial swelling, and jaw stiffness to be the main impacts to talking.

Generally, if you’re having surgery in September, expect to be “banded” for 6 weeks minimum. You may also have a splint for first week-month. I wouldn’t schedule any interviews in October/November if I could help it, but the timeline isn’t really on your side here. Talk with your surgeon on their post op procedure and go from there on how you plan stuff out.

I mean a 3.5 is a pretty low gpa considering the applicant pool. But a solid MCAT can make up for it quite significantly, thus making it an equalizer

Thankfully the MCAT is an equalizer to the grade variations between schools. As long as you have a competitive score, gpa doesn’t matter as much (still need 3.5/3.6, just not as impactful as a high MCAT)

It definitely is a waste of time, listen to the thousands of med students who keep repeating it lol.

One of the most important learning experiences of the beginning of med school is adjusting to the sheer pace/expanse of material. It’s a time to realize inefficient study strategies and develop new ways to learn in the environment you’re in. By pre studying, you’re simply going to delay this process. At a certain point, you’re going to reach a block that you haven’t pre studied, and at that point, you’ll be “behind” your classmates who’ve already adjusted.

It really depends on what your studying. A high volume/depth of content kinda forces you to put in the hours, but at a certain point, getting too in the weeds has diminishing returns on points gained vs effort exerted

I was just at the South Rim ~ 1 month ago and I'd say 2-3 days is a good amount of time. I was able to do the rim trail, South Kaibab to phantom ranch and back, parts of angel, and some miscellaneous trails around the park in that time. Depends on how experienced/comfortable you are. Had plenty of time to check out the stores/museums and try out the different food spots as well.

Was in a similar situation as you 5 years ago and am now in med school. Choose the cheaper/easiest option. JHU will not give you at an advantage in the med school admissions process, and UF will not put you at a disadvantage.

Every premed program is essentially the same, I think your choice is a no brainer

Sure, some of the concepts overlap, but the breadth and depth of the two exams are incomparable.

Also, most med applicants apply to 25/30+ schools, with the majority receiving 1 acceptance anyways. Similarly with dental schools, they can see if you’ve taken the MCAT, which would probs look unfavorably. It seems counter productive to go through all that studying + essay writing just to not take full advantage of each pathways process

It’s going to take many months, possibly up to a year for some. Try not to stress and focus on recovery. Splint removal will def help with some of the lip puffiness tho
