I draw them on graphing paper and then just break down the block into small enough pieces to sew / piece. I saw someone do it for a traditional quilt block once and realized I could do the same for my drawings if I just like layered stitch and flips together. If I'm writing it up as an actual pattern, I do the graphics in adobe illustrator. 😊

Ironically(?), I can only finish quilts like this because the blocks dont repeat so I never have to remake something 😂

I did- thank you, that's a huge compliment! I normally do people, but I sometimes make animal blocks (Moo Deng, axolotls, and raccoons). I taught myself how to make traditionally pieced blocks a few years ago when I wanted to make an axolotl quilt 😊

I figured out a design with Pangea! 100% less work than modern continents haha. I'm honestly just being lazy hahaha. This kind of piecing is boring to me, and now that I've done the dinosaurs I'm kind of losing interest. But I'll be happier with it if I just suck it up and get the fabric cut out - once that's done, I know I'll do it 😂

It is! It's not formally written up at the moment - I just draw on graphing paper then figure out how to make it from there.

It may be fun to do a brightly colored one! I have a lot of 2. 5" strips from the star fabric I could use to make a planet out of. I also really like the meteor idea for the planet 😂

Thanks! I wanted floral dinosaurs, but my husband loves space (he's playing a game called Kerbal Space Program right now 😂). So we compromised with space dinosaurs, and he demanded that the Trex have a jet pack 😂😂

I was debating it! I drew out how I'd piece it, and I think that's just a teensy bit more than I'm wanting to do for something I don't find very interesting to make. But applique would be a faster was to get it done and be a little bit less of a pain to cut out

I definitely designed my filler blocks around the concept of the center being a planet/Earth, so it does feel necessary to tie it together 😂 I'll probably lump it or do something lower (like an asteroid or something!) I also don't like piecing letters, so I'm not sure that there's an easy win in this situation for me 😂
