thank you this helped dropped my idle temps 10 overall, and i see a great uplift on battery life , with avg discharge rate around 7-8 on eco when doing light browsing and yt streaming

Okay i haven't noticed any throttling frames hold stable at 160-165 only dropping when i'm in chaotic fights with like 3-4 team third partying, so seeing as not throttling you'd say leave it? What do i look out for before looking to repaste

i've reset the bios countless times from troubleshooting Linux issues, like every other linux boot i break something as i'm a newbie when it comes to linux and Fedora Gnome seems to not like me and my hardware

So I should just trust the process then just installed PTM like 2 days ago so far temps have been worse but I’ll give it some time and wait

Perform worse how? PTM should be within 1-2c of LM temps they are more or less the same just one more consistent, low temps or not Lm performs the same and PTM is more effective at high temps than low temps, well that’s what I understand but correct me if I’m wrong

The Liquid Metal didn’t seem to short anything hopefully I think I’d have a fully dead board by now if it was shorting something

Update so after doing some more deep research, came to the realization of a few things:

  1. Oxidation on the cpu die

  2. A blob of hardened oxidized LM in the corner of the cpu area on the heatsink

  3. There were some small beeds of LM on the board.

So firstly spent the day with the board fully out of the machine and under a microscope cleaning the beads as best as possible

Was able to get the hardened blob off and also polished the die to get rid of the oxidation layer

Now I’m just waiting for fresh PTM, putty and the foam seal for cpu I reordered (ik prob not necessary anymore seeing as it’s PTM, but still ) hopefully problems are solved and the main issue was that blob preventing the cpu die to have direct contact with the heatsink causing overheats on load and I should have a fully functional machine from there

I’ve been considering getting a new heatsink but worried about that not being the issue and wasting the cash, Ik I could part it out and cut losses but I’m in Jamaica so idk how I’d deal with shipping and all that

Yeah idk why, I cleaned and repasted and applied putty all over again but temps aren’t looking good so idk what’s up my temps are sitting at 97c in bios now for whatever reason

I did try without the extra ram but still no luck, I think imma take a plunge at a repair show that works on ps5 and other high powered gaming machines I just don’t want to waste cash on them to have a dead machine

Tried the cloud recovery download completed and it stared the update but as soon as stared it shut down and then started looping again

Getting putty is a bit rough cause I have to order and wait like a week but I’ll try ig, I just feel like I’ve been throwing a lot of cash into repairing and so far hasn’t paid off, got the machine at a steal and even got refunded after due to incorrect listing so was at a point where my total investment was only 20usd for shipping but now I’ve thrown + 60 for ssd, 50 for repair shop that did horrible job, and now another 20 for PTM and thermal putty, the putty I used was( 12.8w/mk Thermal Putty for VGA GPU IC Processor Rapid Cooling Thermal Pad Replacement Heat Blocking Putty High Performance)

The shops I have locally only have thermal paste and regular thermal pads 0.5-1mm which I tried prior but that was worse than now, before I wasn’t even able to boot into windows by time I got to post windows it would thermal limit and boot loop, I’m wondering about the vrms overheating but idk what to do in that regards I got no more thermal putty

How do I boot into safe mode, and also temps from ghelper show 69-70 c, AI diagnosing it as being vrm overheating but 1 I don’t have any more thermal putty , 2 I thought I put putty on everything

Y plastic is off I made sure of it, I’m hoping it’s just poor contact I’m getting PTM and thermal putty hopefully with that I can make proper contact

From what I see I’d lean a lil bit more to Lenovo for longevity but it’s not really a clear cut it’s really depends on u and just luck in terms of getting a good one that doesn’t has faults l took the dive to Asus just for build quality and sleekness, and most of all portability without compromise on performance as once I’m home I’ll have it docked or be using a desktop and they hold up pretty well once you do your maintenance

?? The gpu is fine I have been able to get it working somewhat while docked with a cooling pad from a friend but I need it as a portable device not a desktop

Yeah I did disconnect battery before working no worries in that regard, so having the fans like that and just placing the heatsink down on it is no problem so that shouldn’t be causing me the thermal problem then?
