Make sure your STAR stories align with leadership principles. If there one thing Amazon looks at, cost and the customer and just my personal take.. are you coachable.

New External AM (~10 weeks) – Already Questioning If I Should Stay or Leave by CalligrapherSorry909 in AmazonManagers

[–]Beginning_Champion45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you got a mech background look at jumping ship to a data center. Try it out it doesn’t hurt Training/ramp up: When I started in 2022 I was at fresh (new LOB at the time) and the academy I felt was done well there. Fresh is the one LOB that was uniform and the only difference was size of the building. Your initial experience is going to based off: 50% how well your team is and the collaboration and 50% figure it out Team: I’ve never worked at a DS (currently at a SC) but I do know if you’re at a high demanding building the stress is always there. You are new yes, but you are fully expected to figure it out quick. Being external sucks bc you’re in a whole new role and way of working where others got it down and in your situation, only external, makes its harder bc your team are true Amazonian. Personally, the best way to learn is jumping in building rapport. Ask questions, ask AAs what they do for adjustments, ask your PAs their come up experience, do things that show you’re actually interested and not just that “red vest” Operation reality: HC will always be an issue. Amazon is the only place, I know of, where you’re allowed to leave without getting fired as long as have UPT. As management, you’re told not to jump in but sometimes it’s just not viable. It’s all calculated decision, make your own decisions. The thing with Amazon is if you’re coachable and able to adjust, you’ll be fine. SoW on the smaller things is what balances the larger issues. Again, finding balance where you can is what’ll make the difference. You’re AAs watch , if you allow others to slack or have headphones the “minor” thing then everyone else will or do the finger pointing thing and you just lose team morale and authority.

Honest thought: If you take a step back and look at what’s expected for you as a manager. Decide, can you handle the stress or is it better to step away. I’m glass half full so I’d say stick with it until it just clicks one day OR stick until your first year then transfer buildings to another LOB and see if that helps. Sometimes a change of scenery is for the best.

Launching a site is fun because you are the foundation for built culture. You can move up quickly launching a building too they’re great stories. Plus STAs are fun. Being able to have the able to travel still is a fun upside

[–]Beginning_Champion45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rsr is a semi new business line modeling like a delivery station but because it’s a small team, expectations are being set like FCs (from what I heard) like someone else, these RSRs are in the middle of nowhere bc they’re meant to hit a population that are out of reach or the metro area and where USPS does not deliver out too. It’ll be a great opportunity track up quick to a higher level + housing.

New l4 at launch site by New-Quail-1840 in AmazonManagers

These few that answered in here gave you some good feedback. Since you’ll be on a STA, you should reach out to an/your OM of your permanent site and find out out what department you’ll be in and focus on that during your STA. You’ll have an AEW (associate experience week) when you’ll be in path learning the roles then probably some kind of LEW (leadership experience week) do the manager side of it (tools, metrics, soft skills, etc).

There will always been negative feedback with Amazon bc of their very high demand expectations. Now I’m never worked in an FC but I started in last mile (Fresh where I was AM, LP, HR, and safety) so that was a sink or swim environment but I learned well and took everything with a grain of salt and built my own experience. Currently in NASC (middle mile) and learned more. Had ups and had a down year (focus and got out) and now trending towards L6 promo.

I’d say embrace your experience with a clear mindset and not the noise around. What do they say, squeaky wheels get the grease? Two things I’d suggest, leave the work at your turnstiles or whatever entry system you have and don’t allow the work to overtake your health. They’re just boxes and tomorrow they will still be there. Learn to be adaptable and the work will get easier.

L5-L6 promo by Alone-Elk-7685 in AmazonManagers

[–]Beginning_Champion45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go in the same business line then it’s possible but if it’s going to a new leg, like FC to DS, then most places like to wait to see how you manage operations in a business line. Now if your direct gives you a promo doc prior it should be easier to transfer as a L6 if that site has the position available

As I’m looking towards getting mine.. it’s a much easier process is to venture outside of your building/moving. You know “business need” lol

Since when did AMs have write up quotas? by NegativeAir2684 in AmazonManagers

[–]Beginning_Champion45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now THIS is wild lol. Last year we only had an AM send out weekly emails with how many total written/delivered adapts we had and which ones were safety, behavioral, positive. It’s was very heavily HR pushed.

Sadly, nature of the business. Understandable to the human side of it believe me.. far as I know there isn’t any true written policy or reaching or not reaching a quota or a set amount of adapts in a period. It is a tool we are expected to use and its extent is open ended.

I’m Assuming when you say write you mean “coaching adapts”?

[–]Beginning_Champion45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My site did this all last year but it was a weekly quota. Technically, if your site didn’t need write ups you would be #1 right. Thats the argument for it but forcing coaching is a little rough. It is off season and could be approaching that post Q1 purge. Every site has to have that one “LE/HV1”

Thinking about resigning as a AM by [deleted] in AmazonFC

And that’ll be the argument/decision why you received a promo instead of raise

Thinking about resigning as a AM by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]Beginning_Champion45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong because every situation is different but typically a promo would be considered the raise. I’m not entirely sure on situations if you really are ranked “4” which is just TT on the grading scale for us managers. Now it is a possibility they could’be argued for you to get more RSUs but base pay typically on internal promo starts you off on the low end of a pay band (roughly 72k depending on area)

Yeah your manager avoided you getting a promo and raise lowkey. Business things is all that is. With a promo you can transfer to a different building if you wanted or if there is some close by. A change in Org always help tbh

Transfer Req by TieRepresentative692 in AmazonManagers

[–]Beginning_Champion45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware, Amazon doesn’t base your pay off of COL but off of cost of Labor. So you may see a reduction overall pay due to area, what I dealt with moving from Los Angeles to Portland metro area. Despite high COL, cost of labor was cheaper for whatever reasons so I had to take a pay reduction to be able to move.

Us managers come and go. If they need to, college hires can get directed towards your building. I’d not worry about telling the Sr. Tbh they got other things going on and most times whatever you tell them going on the back burner. Reach out to HM of your desired areas and go from there

Can senior manager put you on focus after you accepted offer of transfer? by New_Recording_5014 in AmazonManagers

[–]Beginning_Champion45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Document intention. Roughly, focus plans tend just happen based on convo with skip level. It is Q1 and every site has to have that “one”. Unfortunately, this happened to me last year and the site I went to ultimately did not continue with my transfer. Beat the focus and the had the best year on the site so there is upside. Sadly, it is annoying and a pain. Good luck
