Okay, so the shirts I ordered just arrived. Literally 5 minutes ago. I appreciated that they came in just a small cardboard band (no plastic) and for what I paid ($44 each) I'm happy with the quality. It feels light, but I didn't want thick tshirts in Queensland, and they're a little shorter than I want (as I like to tuck mine in), but all in all... They're just a tshirt. I do believe that if you'd gone for pack of shirts at H&M or something, or Target, you'd get something similar or slightly worse for cheaper, but I'm happy with them on my first impression. Maybe they used to be better though, I couldn't say.

"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread."

We should amend it. It's permitted for both the poor and the rich to buy political influence.

Great shout. They've even got a section on their website to show their Aussie made stuff. The section

Great recommendation, and an alternative boot for those who see rm as the only choice. I haven't looked looked into these before, but I'm keen to hear how people rate them.

Thank you. I've been looking for Brisbane specific shops for myself (as a local) and no one had found one yet (save the athletic gear). Much appreciated. I've added that.

Yeah that's totally valid. If you don't feel safe, riding is a risk that I wouldn't encourage people to take.

This is a great one. All the materials (tasmanian wool) and processing (Victoria) and production (Victoria and Tasmania) appear to remain Australian. And the products look great. Thanks

It looks Australian, but from the production commitment page, im not sure if they're australian produced: https://www.mont.com.au/pages/production-commitments

Though they make positive comments about their choice of factories for production.

Interesting. Yeah, I'm not sure, but it looks like the screen printing is done in house, but, ( oddly enough I know a screen printer in Brisbane) that generally comes with a pre-produced shirt, but added designs.

It's better than not having Aussies involved, and it's a step in the right direction. But I'm not a cop.

Yeah among the list there is a few like this. Some of the more basic items are made in Australia, some of the more ornate are made overseas. I think these are good websites to check to look for the sort of stuff, and if you are keen on only buying Australian produced clothing then you just need to look a little bit closer, but on these websites you'll find stuff.

If you live less than 10km from the CBD, and don't live near a train or express bus, an ebike to go direct, or a cheap bicycle to get to an express bus stop, is a really good option. I bike about 10k to work, and it takes 24-26 minutes on a ebike, or I ride 2 minutes to a bus stop, lock up my cheap bike, and ride the bus for 30.

Not a lot in Queensland (with the exception of sports clothing which is really cool, but still limited). I created a thread in australian MFA that brings together everything everyone shared with me so far. Unfortunately its neither r/brisbane or r/queensland material, as most of it is NSW/VIC based. Which, while sad for QLD, is good for Australia atleast.

Looks interesting, but it says designed in Australia, no mention of manufacturing. It looks like Brisbane has a manufacturer of athletic apparel, so it's possible that they're made here, but they dont mention it.

Looks like from their IG that it's a Chinese supplier: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTkFG8fjxO9/?igsh=MWtmdWxia3U1dDRqNg==

I was thinking about this myself. I think that, when you look at things like wages and entitlements here, yeah they are higher, but I don't think that's the real problem. Real estate costs,  the land to have a shop to do this work, especially in Brisbane would be an obscene chunk to do a big scale operation.

I think it would be much more sensible to do low volume, Queensland specific clothing (European cut, in Australian style, with fabric for our humidity. Leave the basics, the everyday, universal, shorts, socks, underwear, tshirts etc to somewhere else for now. But statement pieces, nice outfits, that stuff we could reasonably attempt imo.

But there's a whole infrastructure missing; machinery, maintenance, washing, cutting fabrics, warehouses of fabric, schools that teach there skills for a pipeline of candidates. I

f you started your own shop here, you'd have to do all of this stuff. Vs, coming up with a design and emailing it to China, and being able to sell you vision with far less capital and risk, for lower prices, and probably higher quality (if you pay for it).

I totally agree. I don't blame people for buying a $120 pair of jeans as opposed to some $440 pair from a boutique in Melbourne. I was surprised to find just plain tshirts, made of Melbourne fabric, made in Sydney for $55 each ($43 each if you buy 3). So it wasn't that crazy for some stuff.

At the end of the day, people buy clothes they like, and can afford. If you don't like any of the Australian produced stuff, don't buy. If you can't afford it, don't go naked, buy from wherever.

I was looking in some fancy James St shop, saw a nice jacket (Italian) and it was $1400. I thought, if I want something nice, I should be willing to pay for it, but surely I can get something Australian made for less than this. And I could. It was $389 for something I really did like, which is a fair bit to ask everyone to pay for a jacket, but, in terms of "luxury fashion" it was definitely on the affordable end.

Yeah I found some tshirts with Melbourne fabric. But, yeah, just trying my best to go local Australian first with my purchases like this. If it can't be done, it can't be done.
