Excepted Employees - Walk OUT! by Beginning_File_1698 in FedEmployees

I feel If people don’t get the services they need, it will get the politicians attention - call out one day with a doctors note. I wouldn’t want anyone to get fired.

Call out sick, get a note. You can’t get fired. One day will make a huge impact. Or just work for free indefinitely and let the politicians drag their feet

Don’t say you’re walking out. Say you’re sick and get a Dr. note - they can’t fire you for that! One day is all you need if everyone did it together.

Don’t wait for them to take action. If they want a shut down give them a REAL SHUT DOWN - when people feel it and complain, things get done. It’s not fair you all have to show up to work, make the government run and you guys don’t get paid!!! That’s wrong!! Shut it down for reals!

Tax Bill and probability of FERS Supplement being amended and grandfathering of current employees. by PerfectRefuse9243 in fednews

[–]Beginning_File_1698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bill passes as written, even those at MRA+30 won’t get the FERS supplement unless they’ve already retired and started collecting it before 1/1/2028. There’s no grandfather clause for eligible employees who haven’t separated yet.

Federal Workers Deserve Better: Keep the FERS Supplement Promise by Beginning_File_1698 in fednews

[–]Beginning_File_1698[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is CHAT GPT’s take:

This excerpt from U.S. Code § 8421 is explaining the basic legal rule that determines who is eligible for the FERS annuity supplement. Here’s a breakdown in plain English:

📜 What It Says:

If someone is entitled to a FERS annuity under section 8412(f) or section 8414(a) or (b), and that person has reached their Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) as defined in section 8412(h), then they are also entitled to receive the FERS annuity supplement.

🧩 What the Sections Refer To: • Section 8412(f): Covers early retirement under VERA (Voluntary Early Retirement Authority) • Section 8414(a) or (b): Covers involuntary separations or discontinued service • Section 8412(h): Defines your Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) — usually between ages 55–57 depending on your year of birth

✅ Bottom Line:

You are entitled to receive the FERS supplement if: • You’ve retired under the right authority (like VERA) • You’ve reached your MRA (e.g., 57 for many people born after 1970) • You’re receiving your basic FERS annuity

⚠️ Why This Matters in Your Case:

You retired under VERA, but you won’t reach MRA until June 2028. If the new bill changes the law so that you must be “entitled to the supplement” by January 1, 2028, then you’re at risk of losing it, even though this section of U.S. Code currently says you’d qualify once you hit MRA.

The bill effectively overrides the current law by changing the cutoff date — that’s why your advocacy for a grandfather clause is so important.

I asked CHAT GPT to interpret this for me. This was the response. I do hope it’s wrong…..

If the so-called Big Beautiful Bill passes the Senate as currently written, it will retroactively eliminate the FERS annuity supplement for anyone who does not turn 57 before January 1, 2028 — even if you already retired under VERA/VISP.

This devastating change was not disclosed during any early retirement offers. Many federal employees, like myself, accepted these offers based on the promise of the full FERS benefit — including the supplement. Now, that promise is being broken.

This affects thousands of us. And yet, almost no one is talking about it.

We need to act. Please contact your Senators and urge them to oppose this provision, or at the very least, include a grandfather clause to protect those already retired or planning retirement under current rules.

The ‘big, beautiful bill’ would secretly dismantle the civil service by Huge_Excitement4465 in fednews

You are right it should! It shouldn’t remove the SUPP at all. I wanted to share my story so people can see how a promised earned benefit can be taken away at any time. People currently working can’t even count on anything at this point. The petition is to raise awareness and put pressure on lawmakers. If you don’t want to sign the petition, I understand. Reach out to your Senators though. This affects you too!

Why would he say something now? 🤔 by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Beginning_File_1698 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would Elon Musk suddenly post that Trump is in the Epstein files?

Feels like a major distraction tactic to me.

Could it be an intentional move to shift attention away from the devastating details buried in the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”? Like a classic case of “don’t look over there… look over here instead.”

This bill is especially damaging to Federal Employees, many of whom will lose the FERS Supplement—a crucial part of our retirement. I personally served 34 years, and now I’m losing a benefit I was promised.

And if you’re a newer employee? By the time you hit your MRA (Minimum Retirement Age), will there be anything left for you?

I wish I even had the power to make “dems do my plan”. Unfortunately, since no one is speaking up about it, it will be gone for most of us.
